America is in the midst of a new civil war and the Confederates/right-wing is winning. The Christian-right will not stop until America is a Christian theocratic authoritarian controlled nation, with no separation between church and state.
Americans enemies don't have to do a damn thing. The country will destroy it self, then they'll just walk in and take it, or what's left.
No matter how much of the population is against what they are doing. Only way the new rebs can stay in power is continuing to erode the manifestations of democracy.
in fairness, putin has been working pretty hard on it, including the whole trump situation. We cannot possibly calculate how many votes putin swayed no matter how much the right wingers whine about how insignificant this umber would have been. But it well may be that putin literally had the degenerate elected.

A majority of people didn't want roe v wade overturned and the country is facing many difficult challenges yet the Supreme Court decides to ram this through anyways for some reason. The civil war is in full swing with the GOP putting their people in key places. If they take the house and the senate over in November it will get much much worse. The united states is strutting to resemble sharia law more than democracy at this time
