Thereis a gun club at Union Station
I don think it's still operating. I think it was just for police only.

jimmy, there is one on dawes rd. it calls toronto maple leaf revolver club. it's a small club. i used to go there.

if you want something better, go for toronto sportsmen club. the annual is 4 times more expensive though.

..walk in and pay a fee- no such thing in Canada.

You must be either a guest or go through the training and visitor process.

The club at Union is still operating but it is semi-private and not open to the general public. Anyone can join, but you have to be invited to join by a current member.

There is the Scarborough Rifle Club somewhere in Scarb, google might find contact information, and I believe that one is open for everyone.

That link Sheik provided also lists a "Forest Hill" club that is now located on Royal York.

There are ranges where you can show up and pay a fee for use outside the city for rifles and shotguns, but really doubt there there would be anything like that in the GTA for handguns.

Think we are all assuming you are looking for a handgun shooting range?

How far do you have to go to find a long-distance rifle range? Like precision shooting at 500 yards or further. Some day it might be fun to pick up a varmint rifle and a good scope and see if you can actually hit anything at a distance.

Precision shooting for 500 yards? You will have to go to the military ranges here for that Fuji. Best bet is the one at CFB Borden. You will however have to make arrangements in advance.

As for any gun club, they have days they are open to the public to answer questions etc. Shooting there will require an invitation from a current member. As for public shooting, you could contact Target Sports up in Gormley. They are open to the public with an ATT for restricted, $40 range fee.

Spent many a day deep in the Butts at Borden.:D

Borden Rod and Gun may fit the bill - during select weekends (usually 2nd and 4th of the month) public access to Military ranges are available... I haven't gone through them (I have a few friends that are RSO's) - so not sure exactly how it works for membership or anything...

I go to an indoor public range in Florida a mile from my timeshare - it is great...open to the public, just walk in, pick a gun from the rack (about 20 different ones usually available - I usually go with a Glock 9mm, my buddy from the condo building likes the .357 revolver), pay a cash rental fee for the gun and buy however mant boxes of ammo you want then pick up a pair of goggles, targets and ear protection, head out into the range and shoot away. No time limit - stay until you've expended all the ammo you bought (or buy more). You can take your paper targets home as mementos. They ask to see a driver's licence when you arrive, but that is it - no training, permits, membership, instruction or anything - and those who don't bring your own gun (seems everyone in FL owns one) can rent one of theirs for like $10., and Canadians are fine as customers too. In fact the manager told me a lot of his customers are Canadians becasue of "the crazy gun laws y'all have up there". While I'm not taking a position here on gun laws in Ontario, it is nice to have public no hassle indoor ranges. This place is on Merritt Island a mile from the mall.

I guess you need to live in Alberta or somewhere else with a great outdoors to shoot at 500 yards. When I was a kid I had a varmint rifle (I don't recall what, something with .223 ammo and a scope) and I'd hunt groundhogs. I could take them out from quite a considerable distance--not 500 yards, but maybe 200-300. That's only because I wasn't a good enough shot--with some practice and the right gun you could learn to do 500, even 800 (though likely not with a .223, you'd have to move up to .308 or wind becomes an issue at that distance).

Maybe that's still the best option for long-distance precision shooting: Hitting groundhogs on farms. Other than borden there probably aren't long enough ranges.

dosn't Coldcreek conservation near Bolton still have a range? havn't been in 15 years though
Closed. Long time ago.
Used to visit almost every weekend for skeet.
Until some smart ass built his mansion on the opposite side of the range. He forced the range to close because of excessive noise.

Anyone know how rural a place has to be for it to be legal to fire off a gun there? Wonder if I could just strike up a deal with some farmer, I'll kill his groundhogs for fun. He gets free pest control and I get my long distance shooting range ;)

When it's public can you post details? I'm interested, and I know some people who would be interested, but I'm not willing to connect my terb ID up with my real name. So, when it's public knowledge post something.

One is sorely needed.
