Hi Terb brother,
was curious to know if there was guitar geeks out there. I get the impression our guitar hero's usually start with a Gibson and retire out with Fender axe. Whats your leaning towards?.. Me its been Stratocaster(i'm a poser not much of a player ;) and the Explorer by Gibson caught my fancy...right now i likes the Thinline Telecaster with its Richenbacker line look (can't say sound).
do feel free to contribute.

Gibson, Gibson, Gibson. Love the SG but if money was no option and I could wait a year for my new axe I would definitely order a Lado. They start at about $3700 and go up from there but they are custom made right here in Canada.

Personally I prefer collector pieces not much of a player so I stick to things like limited editions and small releases. My new baby is a '61 reissue in Ebony with gold hardware. Not only does she sound amazing but she also has already appreciated by $1000. Not bad for 1 years time.
wow..you hit a vintage memory in me...hehe..Lado ...the one piece neck body ...i have never picked one up...but i remember in my town they had Rick Emmit prompting them in person at Pongetti music in the early dirt 80's

middle of nowhere
hmm

There are many many more fantastic axes out there than in that list...lol

My personal Favourite is still Ibanez, I have an RG370dx custom I had built a while back.... plays incredible.

For everyday crunching I actually don't mind my Dean hardtail either.

All I can say is, whatever make you like, play it with heart and it won't matter. ;)

I like Fender guitars better,... strats, mustangs, jaguars, and jazzmasters.
I've only owned a strat and a mustang, but i'll probably get a jazzmaster soon.

I've played everything pretty much imaginable and I will always go back to Strats. There's just something about the sound of a vintage single coil that makes me go, oh yeah.

I've got a Les Paul and they're great for crunch and hard rock, but on a clean setting, I just don't like humbuckers. It just sounds too plain. Playing with them sitting down also is a challenge.

Now the Red Special is something very special. I've never played a guitar that just sings the way that guitar does. However, sitting or standing, because of the way the guitar is shaped, it's very uncomfortable.

Then there's the shredder and technically precise guitars - I'm talking about Tom Anderson, Ibanez (majority of them), ESP, Hamer etc. They're great to play on really fast necks but I feel they lack soul.

I've been considering picking up a guitar to start learning how to play. I'm thinking about acoustic...you guys are talking more about electric guitars, right?

Guitar is an incredibly fun hobby and relatively easy to pick up the basics. Acoustic is usually the good starter option as you can just take it anywhere and don't need to pick up an amplifier and cords. They also have thicker strings so at first an acoustic will likely be harder on the fingers to play but gets those callouses built up.

I have an old acoustic that I can't even think of the name right now.. not a big name but it works well.

I have 2 electrics as of now.. Ibanez S470DXQM which plays amazing and puts the floyd roses to shame with how easy it is to adjust the bridge.

The other was my first, an Epiphone SG that I upgraded the pickups on to some active emg's. Isn't as nice as the ibanez but is good for the downtuned chugga chuggas.

Next i'm looking at is a fender strat.. still undecided on model, but want something for the more classic warm sound.

I'm partial to the Gretch but being a bass man at heart, I do love the Rickeys. I've got one Rickey and a couple of others that I play regularly.

got my first Stratocaster made in Japan candy apple red with locking nut and tremolo in 1985...at that time i was considering Ibanez..but i didn't like the Neck.....currently have a 68 reissue with fast playing thin neck...the one with the big head stock...in the process of selling her...think someone else use it to i her fullest potential...oh sold that first strat in 1992..to some guy boasting her was in Peter Gabriel's band...

I voted other. Gibson is over-priced and over-rated, and Fender is over-rated (all though, I wouldn't mind having one). But, my heart lies with Lado.

I had to say other cause I started building my own.Not kit stuff, but straight from raw lumber!
To top it off, I'm a bass guy, so for what I like, heres my list.
Hofner 500/1 CT , love it!
Godin 5 string, ok but getting replaced by a 5 string I'll make in the summer( to cold in the garage!)
Squire Jazz, bought to test some design theories, played so nice I could destroy it! Will either hod rod it or repalce it with a Fender Jazz when I can.
Never really liked the Gibson basses, never really gelled with them.
Schecter Stiletto 4, nice bass, great sound, don't like the frets or neck. To be replaced.
As for guitars, I have 2 customs I build, and a Epiphone Les Paul.
Wouldn't mind a Rick though.

coolio...are you looking for Swamp Ash(old Elm)that is 2 1/4 thick by 18 inches wide(on piece) by 5 foot for that body your making? ...i gots a few boards in my shop. Let me know if your looking for a overhead router.. i am selling am italian made one ^_^
I am refinishing a copy of a Thinline Telecaster it has an ash body. Bloody polyester finishes are a bitch touch up. Have to strip it off.
I would prefer the Deluxe Telecaster Keith Richard's has..but thta is pretty rare..like the twelve string Strat..friend of mine had a MIJ one that was fantastic. He sold it to Steve's Music than within the year when back and repurchased it.
