Someone is actually giving out my phone number to people on Kijiji selling cars and car parts. they send a e-mail to someone and give them my number to call.. and its more than just one person they are giving it to . several people. who called and texted all night starting at around 9:30 pm last night .. not sure if anyone here can help but I needing to vent and seen others vent here . so hey so am I ..

Sorry Raven, I don't mean to make light of your frustration... but perhaps it is a number that is just 1 digit away from yours... This reminds me of a time years ago, when I had a phone # that was just 1 digit away from a local pizza place. I would get calls ALL the time from people ordering Pizza! Happened right up to the time I moved about a year later! Very frustrating.

and my number is one digit away from a real estate agent. I get calls ALL the time from people wanting to buy property.

One time this woman would NOT take no for an answer. She wanted to buy a commercial warehouse out in North Scarborough. I must have told her 10 times that she had the wrong number.

Finally I made an appointment for her to see the property....at 2 am on a Sunday night.....(never heard from her again).

When I get calls like this, I ask what number did you want? to see if they dialled correctly (i.e. my number), then go from there - ie. they dialled wrong, or they have a wrong number (if dialled correclty and is not the one they want).

If someone is giving out your (correct) number, then the only long term solution is to change it!

Funny about wrong numbers: when I lived in North York I got a wrong number one time and the chick on the other end said I had a great telephone voice....we ended up talking for about an hour lol.

Then every once in a while she'd call just to chat lol We never did meet but we had some pretty good talks!

Either it is someone doing it purposely to bug you or it is an honest mistake. Simply ask for the info on where they got the number from, then contact the person and ask them to change the number on the email. They probably have a stock email they are sending out to interested parties.....

For a couple of years, I was getting calls from people speaking what sounded like Mandarin or Cantonese. It was very annoying. They usually couldn't speak English. So about all I could do is hang up on them. Thankfully it eventually stopped.

There was also BS warning ads on CL about you last night. I don't know if you saw them. I called around to a couple of industry people I know and had them flag the crap out if. I knew exactly where it came from.

You are being targeted. There is a big difference between someone having a single digit off from you and being targeted by an immature asshole.

Ignore it is my best advice to you. Keep watching for these ads on KJ and CL. Flag what you can. When people ask for car parts, tell them sorry but I got other parts I can sell ya - LOL You would be surprised how many clients you can get from wrong numbers.

However, ignore the behaviour, don't publicly post about it anymore and buckrogers will get bored after some time. Maybe a week or so. You have build that phone number for too long to change it now. So stay strong.

It will stop. Honestly I would delete this thread. Any attention you give to these idiots will make them just keep doing it. It is all for laughs. Why people get off on this stuff is beyond me.

The guy in question fucked a dirty SW BB in a car and got told how stupid he was by alot of us. Just because you happen to have a number he could get a hold of, you got the target on your back. It will go away. You just have to pay no attention to it.

Also of course, double confirm all appointments and call back any new clients to verify phone number for the next little while.

Believe it or not, this sort of abuse of the phone is considered a fairly serious crime - like screwing with the mail. Call Bell Canada - they will refer it to the police and / or appropriate authorities.
