Gainey did say that Grabovski was their solution to not needing a Hossa in the post season.... now he was given away for rights and a 2nd rd 2010 pick...

sounds like the kid is not working out as planned. anyone know anything about him?

with all of the picks and new talent, Marlie fans showed be entertained to a better team for the next few seasons.

the big club on the other hand....?

I am confuesed or I may be reading it wrong ... The Leafs are the ones who gave up the rights to Greg Pateryn who they drafted this year and a 2nd round pick in 2010 ... for Grabovski ...

So more draft picks Cliff has traded away ...
It's okay to give up draft picks if you are picking up a 24 year old with some up side. Just like a draft pick only more ready.

All I know is he walked out on the team to speak to his agent after being scratched for a game, where as he should have been in the pressbox. Small, speedy skill guy lacking in strength.

Well they gave away for nothing a 25 year old hockey player who scored 8 goals last year Wellwood and replace him with Grabovski.
Wellwood has no more potential.

Instead of a thread of who will be the next captain who will be the next Leaf scoring champion ..?
Great question. No one really knows. I have a really hard time wondering why the Leafs are screwing around and not acquiring someone with scoring abilities. They have over 8 million dollars in cap space for heavens sake. They must max out the available cap space for scoring help. I'm sorry, I forgot it is the Leafs after all. I can't believe that Cliff is letting us down. I have only spoken highly of Fletcher in the past but they need goals.

This team is in major trouble and could possibly finish last overall.

Let the John Tavares sweepstakes begin.

You said it yourself

The Leafs are rebuilding. They're rebuilding for the first time in their history.

Plain and simple 'REBUILDING'.

You are correct sir, crap.

Ya, he has traded away Picks, but for young players, just as good as Draft picks.

You need to be crap for 2 to 3 years like Pittsburgh to obtain high draft picks
and that is exactly what Cliff is doin'.

We have no prospects .... We have to fill the cuboard .... Are you aware that this guy cost us a second round pick ... He gave a 2nd round pick for
a career 3 goal scorer who himself was a 5th round pick ... Why not keep Wellwood for another season and see if a new coach and a new management structure could have light a match under his ass .... Your telling me you can't fill a crappy roster without trading draft picks ...
I don't think Ron Wilson wanted Wellwood. Much like he didn't want Tucker...

I am saying one GM got a 2nd round and a 5th round pick for his asset ( Gainy ) and we got nothing ... This is like Wellwood a 2nd round pick and a 5th round pick for a guy who has 3 career goals ...

This Grabovaski reminds me of Aleksander Suglobov ... The player we got
for Ken Klee ...

Don't mind me ... I am just a fan who wishes his team would stop trading draft picks ...
You can't compare the two, Gainey got something for an asset that perhaps is actually worth something, time will tell how good he will be. Do you not think if Cliff could have gotten something for Wellwood he would have, or do you take him for a complete idiot. Obviously no one wanted to give anything up for Wellwood.

I agree with you on keeping picks. But at least he gave it up for a young guy with some upside and not some over the hill veteran.

I'm not ready to compare Grabovaski to Wellwood either. Yeah they are both small and speedy players. But Wellwood seemed disinterested most of the time and avoided contact all the time. Maybe Grabovaski is different, I dunno, I haven't seen him play.

Wellwood was more $$$.... in a cap system that lowers the value of a player.

Nice Dens
Saw him play one game against the Marlies. He is on the small side, but excellent skater and shifty.

Let's give the kid a chance and see what he can do. It's only a one year contract and it's not like the gave away a boatload of draft picks to get him.
I would have been more upset if he was an older player and we were giving up draft picks.

I believe that the contract given was relatively reasonable and anything more would have been stupid.

I think that the general public is more upset on the contract given to Jeff Finger. A 28 year old defenceman with one year NHL experience. I have seen him play and he is a steady defenceman but I think the Leafs overpaid him a bit too much.

...I wouldn't know Grabovski if I bumped into him on the street...but I can almost guarantee you he is in better physical shape than Wellwood...I have never seen a hockey player more out of shape than Wellwood...ever see him interviewed??...more baby fat than the Pilsbury doughboy....a total shame, a ton of natural talent, but as lazy as they come, a reputation he had in junior..and one that never shook so far in the pros..in fact his abdominal injuries seem to be related to his lack of conditioning. Maybe a change of scenery will be good for Wellwood, because I believe he was too comfortable for his own good in TO....
