I am in the market for a GPS unit. Based on my preliminary research so far, there are 2 main manufacturers in the market - Tom Tom and Garmin.

My question to the membership is - what are your experiences with both manufacturers, with respect to traffic notification, downloadable maps, ease of use, reliability, speed, etc. Just looking for some real life experiences to help me to decide.

Worf, dont you have a GPS on your smart phone? I have the Telenav app service from Bell $49.00 over two years subcription. latest maps, traffic weather, movies etc.

If you dont have a smart phone or still prefer a GPS unit, I would recoment the Magellan. I had the "cross over" model - which I used for in car navigation and the Topo maps for hiking/canoing. Great unit, survived all kinds of weather and punishment.

Good luck!
