I'll be in La belle province this weekend and was wondering if anyone could recommend some good eats in Montreal.
I know of Ben's and Schwartz for corned beef sandwiches, but how about a French(or otherwise) restaurant that nice (bringing the GF), but reasonably priced.

Try L'Academie, 4051 rue St. Denis, pick up a bottle of wine from the adjacent SAQ (Societé des Alcools du Québec) and walk in. They dont take reservations, but its worth the wait. Trendy, Great ambiance, busy thurs. through sat. nights.

Oh, I have a feeling you'd be a little disappointed with Ben's, unless you like 60's kitsch. Try their version of poutine, topped with a generous shaving of smoked meat, along with the quintessential fromage en grain. Prepare for a wait at Schwartz's, esp. if youre there during regular mealtimes on any day. Worth the wait, make sure you know what you want when you order ;) Courtesy isnt one of the staff's better traits.

Buffet Maharaja

Biggest Indian buffet

Awesome and unique taste!

Good for lunch, not appropriate for an evening date, special occasion though.

Just don't plan on doing anything afterwards. :D

Forgot the name of the place off Hwy 20, just after the bridge. The town is an artist town with many chatlet/boat paintings. It's not as busy, almosts as good as Schwartz imo. Popular summertime as they also sell ice cream cone. They've a good review from Gazette.

Selective Suburban BIFTHEQUE are upscale steakshop, not the cheapo beef joint in T.O.

You got to try the breakfast/brunch @ Oeuf... for large portion egges, french toast, etc. I'm terrible with names. They have a competitor on St. Catherines, not as good but better than any in Toronto.

The town is Ste. Anne de Bellevue. A little too far from downtown to be truly worth battling westbound autoroute 20 traffic to get to in the evening IMO. Oh yeah, and dont believe everything you read in the Gazette. ;)

Chez Cora? Eggspectations? Both are not bad, the latter is a little more 'touristy'. Neither I would go out of my way to eat at, esp. when I was living in Montreal. Many, many more 'homey' neighbourhood-type establishments to breakfast at, but I can't give away all my secrets now, can I?

Raverboy, thanks.

Hm, Ste. Anne de Bellevue doesn't ring a bell. I hit it on my way from T.O. into Montreal. It was much before Dorion (driving from the west). Indeed, not a short drive from Montreal.

Yes, both Chez Cora and Eggspectations but in the suburbs. Large portions, good food & customer service.
