Will be in Toronto later next month. Looking for suggestions on good places to eat. Not the hobbying type but actual food joints. Any good recommendations for Thai, Mex, Indian, or anything else for that matter. Just not some greasy burgers and fries.

It all depends what you want and location.

In North Toronto you could try Copacabana (excellent Brazilian Churrasqueria) Younge and Eglington. Il Sogno (Italian) in Younge south of Eglington. And Debu's (Indian) on Mt Pleasant north of Davisville Ave.

For good India food: The Host at Prince Arthur St., right around Four Seasons, Hyatt, Intercontinental in the Yorkville area (must stroll aroud there).
For real good Thai : Try to find Vanipha Lana Lao Thai, (416) 654-8068, 863 St Clair Ave W, Toronto, ON M6C
Japanese: Nami at Adelaide St. or Yamato at 24 Belair (Yorkville)

There is so much. The above are the quick picks tha can't go wrong. Happy munching. Cheers

if you're into Japanese I will second Yamato in Yorkville. It is the best Japanese in the city. A bit pricy but still worth it.

Sorry to resurrect my past post but had to finalize the plans for our Toronto trip. Will be staying near U of T so looks like that's right next to Yorkville. Besides Yamato and others mentioned above anything else we should consider?

Yamato is over-rated. I have been to Yamato 3 times, the last time, they served me under-cooked rice. I was with white friends, they couldn't tell, but being asian it is quite apparant what under-cooked steamed rice taste like.
For the same price range, Sagano at Delta east in scarborough or Katsura are better, they are run by real japanese, even waiter are Japanese.

Sushi Inn at Cumberland - one street south of Yorkville is much better choice than Yamato. same quality food, just less expensive. just a little crowded at lunch time, but it would make a good take out choice. Also Natural sushi on Younge street south of charles.

I used to love the sushi at Katsura, but it went downhill after they closed the sushi bar upstairs. They originally had a sign saying it was closed for reno's I went back a few times but it was still closed and no sign, and the sushi was clearly not the same (maybe to due to lower sales with the closed sushi bar?).... Is it open again now?

Dude!!!

Yamato is so much better than Sushi Inn...
Sushi Inn is terrible...You might as well recommend New Generation at Bathurst & Bloor...

Yamato has actual Japanese Chefs and Japanese staff (though not all the Chefs are Japanese)...The quality of food is so much better..

Avoid Sushi Inn...Even the Decor is whack...Like they went to Chinese Curio Shop and bought anything that looked kind of Japanese....
They should have put up a bunch of Hello Kitty memorabilia...it would have been more convincing...

Some of the dishes at Yamato are not up to par but most plates are really good (and there is the Teppanyaki...)
Fune at Simcoe and Adelaide is the sister restaurant to Yamato...

Although I have never been I have heard great things about Kaji Sushi at Queensway and Islington...

For Thai food:

Thai Chef at Roncesvalles and High Park Boulevard....

Legitimate Thai Food....Great Service and Great Food (prices are very decent as well)....

Though sometimes the service is a little slow when there's a lot of customers!
