Because the Report puts most of the blame on the PMO at the time, and Chretien has shown a propensity for going to court about anything written about him that doesn't show him in the best possible light.

We taxpayers will have to foot the bill for those stupid lawsuits...

Looks like Martin wasn't expected to know what these crooks were up to after all. There are quite a few on this board who claimed Martin somehow "should have known" but Gomery apparently sees it quite differently:

"...Mr. Martin, whose role as Finance Minister did not involve him in the supervision of spending by the PMO or PWGSC, is entitled, like other Ministers in the Quebec caucus, to be exonerated from any blame for carelessness or misconduct..."

I can't wait to see Harper try to spin this so he can still blame it on Martin.

Red, some time ago, you impressed me by saying that you were actually going to read the report when it came out. Are you still going to pay the $50 +GST and read the report?

I can't wait to see Liberal supporters try to spin this so we can trust the Liberal party. Oh wait, you're doing that already. Shift the focus to Harper and his "spin-doctors".

Bottom line is that the Liberal Party fucked over the Canadian taxpayer, and all they want to do now is pay us back. That's complete and utter bullshit. How the fuck can people vote for a party that has embezzled money for their own gain in the past? I don't care if the people responsible for that are gone, the underlying feeling of invulnerability is still there.

I'll admit, I don't like Harper. Right now I think I'd vote Green. But that will only get the Liberals re-elected because the sheep will vote for them anyways.

It drives me bonkers. Chretien and the rest of them should be thrown in jail. The Liberal party should be disbanded and all their assets distributed to the Canadian taxpayers in the form of a rebate cheque. Only then would justice be served, IMO.

Thanks for the link but I can't see myself having time to more than browse through it. Red, I'll be interested in your posts after having read it first hand.

The voters don't have anywhere else to go but back to the Liberals. Look at Harper and Layton. Who ya gonna call?

Your assertion that: "...the Liberal Party fucked over the Canadian taxpayer, and all they want to do now is pay us back..." is somewhat less than complete. The current leader of the Liberal party put an immediate stop to sponsorship, invited the RCMP to investigate and charge anyone who had misappropriated funds and called the Gomery Inquiry - even though it was well known that Gomery is a conservative-leaning judge and no friend of the Liberals. Yes the Liberals have taken steps to repay the illegally obtained contributions but that is a small potatoes compared to the lengths that Martin has gone to identify and eliminate the corrupt few in his party.

It is interesting that, when it suits them, people like yourself will often attempt to reduce even the largest organization containing thousands of members down to some kind of single entity or being. Once you have conveniently condensed all the members of the Liberal party into this fictional but more manageable construct, you can then proceed to label "it" as good or bad or whatever. This is just lazy and dishonest. Any large organization will have a few bad apples and I admit that the Liberals are no exception. But they have cleaned house, at great political cost and in the most transparent way possible. It is just pointless to continue blaming the many for the sins of the few.

When you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar, what else are you going to do?

And Paul Martin and their ilk have been flawless and blameless since they took the reins of power, right? There have been no patronage appointments, no misappropriation of funds, no fucking over of the Canadian public?

You tell me that the current Liberal party isn't like their predecessors, but yet they regularly tar the Conservative party with the sins of their predecessors. Ironic?

It's time for a change. A Conservative minority government would be just great as far as I can see.
