Going to update this thread (or start a new one) after my hernia surgery at Shouldice Hospital in Toronto. Guess 25% of all men will get a hernia at some time, so others might like to know what goes on at Shouldice.

I am not too worry, have no pain right now from it, doctor said its small but getting your muscles in your groin stitch up with wire (if they still use steel wire) seems a little painful.

Can not be as bad as when my upper jaw got busted in that auto wreak 20 years ago. This should be a breeze compare to my 19 day hospital stay back then.

I be gone all next week, hopefully back Friday or Sat. I am getting in town a day early :D

You might want to make any SP appointments, before the surgery.

Seriously, I went to Shouldice ... it was first class treatment, with the possible exception of the food ... but I'm picky about food. It's very uncomfortable at first, and it takes a few weeks to be close to normal, but believe me it's worth the trouble, to be pain free again.

Good luck

S.C. Joe IIRC you are American. You couldn't get this surgery done in the US?

That is why I am coming in a day early :p

Yeah, I am picky on what I eat too...what can we do, there is a super market across the street, might get some fruit to take with me in...do they have bottle water, ha ha.

Well last time I didn't eat for almost 3 weeks, had an IV and once my jaw was wired shut for 6 weeks it wasn't easy to eat. Since I had a few front teeth busted out, I was able to slip food in my mouth..roast beef, chicken, but then I got cramps from not chewing my food.

With no health insurance I am looking at about $10,000 US over here. Some place in Ohio said he could do it for $5,500 US. Shouldice said it cost around $3,600 US..plus they have a very good name..I am a little unsure about going home the same day, over at Shouldice they keep you over a few days.

Heck 3-4 day's in Hospital over in the USA would cost me $20,000 or more.

(good excuse to visit Toronto too...rather spend my cash were people are nice)

There were a lot of yanks there, when I went ... in fact, people from all over the world go there, because of their reputation, even when they can get it done for free at home. Hernias are all they do and they are simply the best.

Didn't Jack Layton go there for his hernia surgery? As a committed socialist he didn't want to wait in line with the ordinary folks using the public health care system. Love those socialists!

I was going to Shouldice when an emergency came about and had to have the operation in Toronto Hospital. Was repaired with a mesh and then the hernia was closed. Up and about in 4 hours.

There was a lot of discomfort but recalled what Shouldice advised me. That was to get up and move about early after the operation. I did and it was great. When i just laid there the discomfort was huge. Shouldice told me i would walk around very quickly after the operation.

Much depends on where the hernia is.

All the best to you and good luck. You will be in great hands.

One thing is for sure: You will get the shave of your life! Your balls will never be so smooth again! :))

They tell you to shave but then they improve on it.

They say not for me to shave for risk of infection, they will do it for you...yeah, its down low but the Doc at Shouldice said its small. Why the F do they have to mess around with your balls?..Hernia is above that area.

They don't use mesh at Shouldice...I hear story's both saying one way is better than the other. But what made sense to me was if you are under 50, best to go the Shouldice way with no mesh, since hopefully you live for another 30 years and the mesh could break loose in that time.

I rather book the SP for at the hospital and she can do the shaving as the nurse watches and makes sure she does it right.

But somehow I don't feel the nurses would be too "hip" about that :D

I know all about "bitch" nurses...its not a strapon but a tube they stick down your dick they use to hurt you...oh yeah, they sometimes have to use it..but they don't have to go fast or use one too wide.

Then there is that accidentally bumping your broken leg as they walk by your bed.

But for every "bitch", there is some nice ones too. The trick is to get them to feel sorry for you.

(I know you were joking but your looking at a guy who seen a few things thanks to a 19 day stay at hospital.)

You know I have to ask this obligatory question. Did you get a woody?
nope ... the rooms are semi-private, not conducive to intimate moments. Besides, it took her all of 30 seconds. I can't get aroused that fast anymore :p

Beside they dope you up ahead of time I would think to relax you.

Like I said...look forward to the Shouldice review...many of you might be going someday as well...I was feeling just fine two months ago, went to bathroom and seen a small lump, thought its an infection, I need some meds, local doctor told me the good news :(
