Cuba

Hola Doc:
I frequent Havana quite often as i work for the airlines. To rent rooms look for the Anchor sign above the door of the house as these are safe and cheap. You can take the chicas back but they must be carded for age (18 Plus) the hotels won't allow chicas into your room. Don't display any of your valuables in your room when the chicas are there. The going rates in Havana varies from 10-80 cuc peso (1.23 can to 1 cuc peso) depending on your negotiation skills. Most chicas will give you a sob story and also have pimps. You can find chicas almost anyware in Havana. The malecon is their lakeshore in Havana, that is where the action is on Thursday till Sunday . Be carefull in front of the Hotel National on the malecon as this is where the LADY BOYS hang out. Most of the chicas in Havana are true Pros. You can also take a taxi to Santa Clara and check the pros that goes to the beech. You can negotiate the terms in the water as this is a way of them getting away from the Puta Patrol (Cops) but be careful as the cops are also watching with binoculars from their towers on the beech. You can find lesbo shows as there are also many lesbos there and willing to make some cash. You will find the Wholesome Good Girls in the small Cuban Towns.
Remember 98% of cuban that wants to be your friend want MORE than your freindship. The usual come on is "what time is it" thats their in to sell you everyting from fake cigars, chicas and even fake viagras, stay the hell away from these BLOOD SUCKERS. I always tell them i am from Miami.

The best place to buy legit cuban cigars is at the duty free shop at the airport. The cuban cigars sold on the streets are guarantee to be home made with cheap tabbaco leaf that contain bugs and other shit. The 7 anos Havana Rum is also good. Stay away from the gut rot the average cuban drinks as this is probably distilled in 3 to 8 months.

Be advised this is a third world country so no toilet seats or dump paper will be available at the restraunts or bars if you have to use the facilities use the public washrooms at the hotels.

The Middle Kingdom
Shaft has given u some good info.

I didn't know about the t-girls at the hotel national. Thanx for the heads up (no pun intended).

I just got back from Veradero and I had the best rum I've ever had. It's called Legendario and it blows Havana club away. I'm also a huge Havana Club fan. I paid 11.50 cuc which is pricey but worth every centavos. Check it out.

I dont' know where you're going in Cuba but don't go to Veradero if you plan to do much hobbying. It was a bust for me. I won't go back.

Havana is the only place to go. It is the largest city (2.2 milllion out of 11 million total) and is the most liberal. The smaller the town, the tighter things are.

or legit cigars I recommend Montecristo#4 The sell for about 5 CUC. The best deal I found here is $16. But make shure you have a humidoror at home or else smoke them real fast. As for on the street you may get lucky and get a good deal. Have fun!
Oh yea! for chicas, the beach in the evening may be a good bet.

See link below for recommendations.

The size depends on you - if you're just starting out, the coronas (5" or so) work out just fine. Make sure you smoke it all the way to the end, as the flavor changes continuously. Don't smoke the 12" Churchills unless you've smoked the coronas first. Only buy from a government store, NEVER the street. The street ones are likely to be terrible in quality, and will burn unevenly and give you a splitting headache.

Try a variety of rums and see what you like. There are some brands only available in Cuba like Caney and Santiago. To ensure smoothness, try only the aged stuff.

If you're feeling generous, buy some extra deodorant/shavers/toothpaste - girls will appreciate it.

Cuba is a little different, as you'll soon realize. If volume drops, it's likely that they'll actually increase prices. Strange but entirely possible....

Only buy cigars from the La Casa de Habanos (LCDH) and airport shop. You are allowed to bring back to Canada 50 sticks per person. If you are buying a box or more, you must show a proper receipt to the Cubans on the way out. You will not get the proper receipt from the guy on the street or his buddy at the resort. No receipt? The cigars don't go with you! You will only get the receipt from the LCDH.

From my research, the prices of cigars in Cuba are not that much of a savings over the Canadian internet retailer that I use.

As far as what to buy, try different singles while you are there and then make your purchase on the way home. The Monte #4 is okay but it is kind of like the basic Cuban cigar that everyone knows. Monte #2 are great. The Jose De Piedro are fantastic little hand finished cigars that are really well priced.

Remember, if you don't buy at LCDH you may be getting fakes too. There was never, ever, a glass-top box of Cohiba's ever produced in Cuba. You'd be surprised how many have bought one though.

You know I've been to Cuba more than 20 times, always brought cigars back and have never been asked to produce a sales receipt or had cigars confiscated or even inspected. Last I heard they have relaxed the rules a bit and now you can bring back up to 50 cigars without receipt. So you can buy them anywhere.

I wouldn't recommend you buy them off some guy on the beach though or some hotel employee looking for a deal. Those are mostly crap. If you want cheap cigars buy the peso cigars. Any cuban will know where to get them. They sell them in shops (not tourist shops) and some bars. You get a package of 25 for 1 CUC. I've had them on occasion and they aren't that bad. These are the cigars the cubans smoke.

Certainly the best cigars will be found in authorized stores but will be more expensive.
