You know in cartoons, when the character is running away from a collapsing something in a straight line directly in-line with the impending fall just to make it funny, when they could just move off to the side? I never thought to see that in real life.

KIds narrowly escaping death while out running train

It's all fun and games until someone gets killed

Years ago I had a friend who knew a guy who was a Go train engineer. Twice he had accidents with people doing stupid things on the tracks which resulted in deaths. After the second accident he hit the bottle big time and was never the same again. Looking at the video you can imagine the engineer must have almost had a heart attack.

If you talk to the TTC folks, they will tell you how many drivers are on leave because they witnessed a suicide or a suicide attempt...What you see is engraved in your memory and nightmares follow.
Next time you are on the TTC and it stops it could be one of those cases...TTC does not advertise that obviously.

What no one ever tells you in the media or otherwise is that trains, especially GO Trains are completely silent until they are virtually on top of you.

Your average person foolishly believes that you will hear a train coming when you are walking on the tracks. You will not.

That video shows it. The 2 kids had no idea a train was coming up from behind them. At the last second, they heard a horn or the noise of the train and realized that they were in trouble. The one kid was just starting to run left when he realized that right was the correct direction to run and he changed direction.

The other kid turned and saw the train and stupidly ran left. Because they were on a bridge, he was trapped by the railing (luckily for him the bridge had railings and was not the kind of railway bridge with no railings). He ran left and was trapped by the railing with just enough clearance to avoid getting pasted.

Stay off those tracks kiddies.
