This is what woodpeckr said in a recent thread.

Make no mistake about it! GLOBALISM is destroying the USA!

The USA doesn't make anything anymore. Pinko Corporatists in all their GREED shipped tens of millions of great US jobs offshore to their commie pals and now the USA is reaping the bitter harvest of their selfish myopic Corporate polices as the USA implodes. Chairman Mao must be smiling in his grave at how he used Capitalists to destroy the USA, while at the same time turning RED China into a superpower that WOULD have suffered the same fate as the late USSR, were it not for their Pinko Corporatist pals help....
Anybody agree? (having changed USA to Canada)

Coupla days ago, at Canadian Tire, I purchased kitchen scales, garage door opener, kettle, electric pressure cleaner, pack of AA batteries. Every item I purchased was manufactured in China. Every one!

If those items had been manufactured in Ontario, and the price charged to me had been enough to enable the good TO workers to continue in their great jobs, at their great wages, my shopping bill would have been -- what? -- double? ("significantly more" at any rate).

Are you yourself willing to pay double to keep Ontario workers in the manner to which they have grown accustomed?

If globalism is destroying Canada (as implied by woodpecker's statements) what would you do - if you had the power to do something?

Would you be willing for the government to make it mandatory that everything that can be manufactured in Canada must be manufactured in Canada?

I will make one point. Have we forgotten the crap that domestic auto manufacturers were making for the last 50 years until global competition caught up to them?

That's the risk you run with a protected market. I might be prepared to pay a nominally higher price, but what happens to quality and innovation if companies (and their union employees) get stuck in a rut?

Compete or die is brutal but it works.

Globalism isn't destroying the USA. It's the Federal reserve with is backwards monetary policy and the US government with the billions of regulations and laws that make it too expensive for businesses to operate effectively. That and the government's inability to cut spending.

Cheers

Agreeing with WoodPeker is akin to admitting you do not understand the issue.

Would you be willing for the government to make it mandatory that everything that can be manufactured in Canada must be manufactured in Canada?
Absolutely not
The less the govt is involved in the marketplace the better the marketplace operates.

Do you ant the govt to tell you you have to buy a PC of questionable quality and you have to pay $1,000 for it because it is made in Canada?

Canadians should stop shopping in the U.S. and support Canadian retailers. Also, buy Bell, not some Egyptian company. Lastly, only Canadian born hockey players should be allowed to play for the Leafs.

LOL

How many of those Canadian Tire brands were Chinese?

Assembly is a low skill / low wage job, rich countries rarely do simple assembly.

More misguided union propaganda
Brought to you by those lefties that are either too stupid or too lazy to compete.

WoodPeker, hurling unsubstantiated accusations like you do only hurts your cause
Anyone with 1/2 an ounce of common sense, reads what you write and immediately identifies it as the over-the -top, non-factual, rantings of a nit-wit union stooge and not worth considering as a valid argument.
You have probably done more to set back the union movement on this board , than all others combined.

Keep up the good work !

(What an idiot)

I knew when this thread was started that pekkerhead would wallow in it. It's a hoot.

He wore the uniform, hmmmmm. He's hinted at this once before, but it is alway so vague. Did he serve in VietNam? I wonder how far back behind the lines. Was he drafted? Did they actually allow a person such as the person he shows regularly here, to hold a gun; scary thought. The time just doesn't fit smoothly. Yet now he's retired.

Thank goodness the veterans of WWII didn't think like him in large scale against the German or the Japanese or the world would have been in a terrible state.

Jobs will be returning, there is a tariff appearing on the horizon, the cost of fuel. Distance costs money and once oil climbs again it may well soon be cheaper to open a plant in Ontario that ship something halfway around the world.

The End of Growth is an interesting read from a Canadian perspective.

Are you actually serious?
No, I'm not suggesting it, ya berk. But it seems inescapable that that is what idiot-mouth woodpeckr is suggesting.

Any thoughtful person must indeed be concerned at the loss of manufacturing jobs in Ontario, to other countries where the workers are paid peanuts. At the same time, we are totally not willing to be forced to buy Canadian, at extra cost, to provide enough money to keep the high wage jobs here.

So what is the solution? Lots of doomsoothing and ranting going on here, but precious little by way of here's-what-we-might-do-about-it suggestions.

Terbies are not a merely average cross-section of the Canadian public - rather, we represent an intellectual elite (with some exceptions of course). So, where else would we go for ideas?

So true in so many cases...
Says the tech challenged Apple salesman who brags about visiting his commie pals in RED China at the Apple plant over there where anti-suicide nets had to be installed to keep their workers from jumping off the rooftops to their death!!!....
