Just driving back to the office I heard on the radio that the US Olympic committee covered up the fact that Carl Lewis tested positive for 3 , yes count'em 3 , banned substances at the US Olympic trials a cuouple of months before the 1988 Soeul Olympics . Not that it's much of a surprise , hell the track and field coaches fed Flo Jo so much crap it ended up killing her later in life .

Give everyone a gold and a Wheaties Box cover and open up the Olympics to see who has the best chemists .

Random thought - did Carl Lewis have M Jackson's plastic surgeon ?

I have long thought that Canada wimped out with regards to the Ben Johnson affair. It was so obvious that other nations were using performance enhancing drugs. Never mind the fact that the Canadian sprinters were training in the US and were in contact with US coaches and vice-versa. Never mind the fact that East Germany was one of the top medal winners and had a solid reputation of doping their athletes.

To me, Canada should have told the Olympic association to fuck off or had the balls to tell them to start investigating the other countries in a more serious manner.

Read the book 'Speed Trap' written by Ben's coach. He put his athletes on juice because coaches from every other COMPETITIVE nation told him flat out that Canada didn't stand a chance unless their athletes were on juice.
Carl started calling foul on Ben prior to the Olympics and did everything he could to set him up.
Ben and his handlers couldn't believe he tested positive, they had this juice cycle down to a science. And maybe he DIDN'T test positive.

Just last night I was telling a friend of mine (while discussing an unrelated topic) that when it comes to certain policies etc... we Canucks are nothing but a bunch of f**in pussies. When it comes to sports, everyone is messing with anabolics, doping, ect, depending on the sport. It doesn't matter until someone gets caught. The crime is not the chemicals, it is getting caught. For the sake of public image, the powers that be go overboard. Ben got jacked and lost a ton of $$$.

My recollection is that they had Ben's program done properly, but that he panicked and popped a whole bunch of extras on his own just before the competition, which is what got him caught.

and further to C Dick, it explains why Ben spent 4 hours at doping control after the race. He drank something like 8 or 9 beers in order to dilute his urine sample hoping the steroid metabolites to be inconclusive.

Remember Carl's face looking over at Ben crossing the finish line - that was priceless! It was the look of "How could Ben have better juice than me?!!" lol
