According to the evening news, 2 Winnipeg high school girls have won a ruling from the Manitoba Human Rights Commission that will allow them to try out for the boys high school hockey team. The school also has a girls team, but the 2 girls claim it is a joke.
What is now to prevent boys from winning the right to play on girls hockey teams? Given the physical differences between the sexes, this could have a negative impact on girls participating in sports if they have to compete against boys.
I am all for human rights, but this ruling does not seem to be in the best interests of boys and girls playing hockey. I think the human rights commission has made a mistake. There may be an appeal process.
