A sequel to the 2003 box office flop 'The Hebrew Hammer' features Mel Gibson being gunned down by the lead character.
According to ynetnews.com the original film starred Adam Goldberg as a Jewish hero who has to save Chanukah from the evil son of Santa Claus.
The comedy was attacked by some Jewish groups for mocking them as well as presenting stereotypical portrayals of Jews. Ynetnews.com speculated that director/writer Jonathan Kesselman intends to continue giving them cause for concern with the sequel.
When it was released on DVD in 2004, Kesselman told SuicideGirls.com of the backlash to his first film he had received by some groups: "It surprised me because in my mind it’s a very positive Jewish film that is a love letter to being Jewish. It’s weird because I’m not breaking new ground. Mel Brooks was doing jokes like this in the '70s and '80s. Before shooting I got a call from the Anti-Defamation League, because they somehow got a hold of the script but they had certain problems with bizarre things like sight gags," Kesselmen said.
In the sequel, Hollywood star Mel Gibson is gunned down on screen by the Hebrew Hammer after a tirade of anti-Semitic outbursts. Reportedly Kesselman is said to be hoping that Gibson will star in a parody role because the star has said he wants to make amends to the Jewish community. What better way could Mel make good to the Jewish community than being murdered by a character called the 'Hebrew Hammer?'
