The other day I was making a right hand turn from Street B to Street A. A kid making a left from Street B to Street A instead of going into the proper lane cut in front of me so that he could get into the gas station. If I had not braked I would have hit him. My 7 year old daughter and her friend were in the back seat. I pulled into the gas station after him just to chew him out. Basically, he doesn't care that he cut me off or that he almost got hit. He said as much! I got his plate and want to find his address so I can have a chat with his parents (assuming they at least care). I've seen websites that will do this for you but don't know if they are reputable. Any advice?? Thanks boys!

None that I am aware of. Not sure if you could cause then anyone can find out where someone lives and do anything to them and also Harass them about something that happened on the road.

...I've learned that with very little effort a PI can turn a whole license plate into an address.

However, they WILL chaege you for this. Are you willing to pay?

Beyond that, what makes you think his parents will be interested at all in hearing what you have to say? My experience in life has been that borish children have borish parents - hence their nature. He doesn't feel accountable for his actions because his parents never raised him to be - talking to them will make no difference whatsoever I would speculate.

Let it go...you are right, but let it go.

I don't think our privacy laws allow giving this information to citizens, cops have gotten in trouble for doing license info printouts for their own purposes as well.
This information could be dangerous if in the hands of stalkers or weirdos, you should be glad you have this protection.
You could report this to the police, they might choose to follow up if they find he has a bad record but I doubt they'd bother.
At least you got the satisfaction of chewing out the kid, most of us don't get that. Let's hope a tiny grain of sense made its way into his head.

License plate/VIN/Driver license # reversal is possible

Only Ontario still has this in Canada. Used to be $5.00 at the counter, then it went to account holders only, now PI's and several search companies still have this service. Affidavits have to be signed, that it is with regard to a legal matter etc. Not very easy anymore and quite a bit more exepensive but still less than $100.00.

I remember a friend doing it for her gf (cheating bf shit).
This was done at the Moter Vehicle License Bureau, there was a fee, BUT, the person you were inquiring about would find out that you were doing a license plate search.
The agent at the counter required a valid government photo ID, in turn I believe they would notify/contact the person, that "John/Jane Smith" did a plate search on them.
Not sure if you can do it now.

As a start, you can request for a Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP) at an Ontario kiosk, but you must have at least the plate number and make of vehicle, i think.

The UVIP will then tell you the owner's last name and town he/she lives in.

Then, you have to hope for a unique last - and look this person up in the White pages.

I would also suggest to you that if you approach the guy's house, this could be treading criminal territory of "watching or besetting" someone. I think he can technically call the cops on you.

the best you can do (legally) is report the incident to http://www.roadwatch.ca/

With a young driver, there is a good chance the car is registered to his parents. If so reporting the incident to roadwatch then the police will send a "letter" to the owner (hopefully to the parents).

you still can do it at the motor vehicle office.
If you can still do it, the person will be notified that a search for their information was done.

In BC, with public auto insurance, any insurance agent can lookup your address... so if someone knew a crooked agent or went to an agent to "update" info, it could be done with a plate number as they do not ask for ID... so much for privacy!

But is the person in question notified? You're giving up quite a bit of info yourself and don't want some psycho driver looking up your address!
Absolutely, i was at the motor vehicle office when a gf of mine did it for a friend of hers. My friend got worried a little, and didn't do it.
It wasn't her issue and she didn't want to risk her info.
There has to be a paper trail, in case something happens.

Not notified if you do it this way through their website. Maybe because they don't actually give you the phone # and address.

I tend to agree b/c the gov't would be violating your privacy by giving your info to the person who owns the plate. If the gov't was going to do that, they'd have to tell you that before you do the search and I don't see that anywhere on the MTO site.

Going in person to a MTO office is probably different b/c that requires a valid Ontario photo ID; something the website version doesn't.

Sounds like she has a life...just trying to protect her kid.

Too many young drivers with no laws to protect the rest of us.

Or file report with police traffic divison.
