I wanted Germany to win....but....... I HATE any team sporting event that lets any game of significance be decided by penalty shots!
I like penalties, they're instant drama

The Argentineans showed a real lack of class going after the referee at the end of the game. I have never seen anything quite like that before!
LOL! I guess you haven't followed Argentina in the World Cups before. Since 1982 there has been at least one outrageous incident in every WC, although it's usually an egregeous attempt to injure an opponent.

they didnt go after the ref. They went after former German striker who is currently a German official named Oliver Bierhoff. Apparently he taunted them but he Argy players are known to be ...well....you know...

It all dates back to 1966 when they kicked off on the pitch with in the English team back in that world cup held in the so called mother country. Whenever Argentina is around something seems to always happen

German goalie was great.
I wouldn't say he was great, more like Franco from Argentina played very poorly in the penalty kick session. This was Argentina's game to win. They had the lead and were clearly outplaying Germany throughout most of the contest. Must say,it was a good effort by Germany to get the equalizer. I just don't like when a game has to be decided by penalty kicks, though that's the way the game is played.

Taking Riquelme off and bringing Cambiasso in was a big mistake by the Argentine coach. With Riquelme on the field, Argentina had more possession and were a totally different side.

His absence provided the Germans more opportunities to get foward and attack. Not a very smart move by Jose Pekerman trying to sit back and protect the one goal lead.

It's alwats so satisfying to see that happen.

Remind me who took those penalties for Argentina angain? I remeber scratching my head over a couple of names I heard and ones I didn't.

Torsten Frings has been suspended.

If Germany is to defeat Italy they must score early and they must win these match ups:

Lahm vs Zambrotta
Schweinsteiger vs Grosso

If it goes to a shootout, Lehmann has to match Buffon per save.

Enjoy "Gli Derby de Europa".

Past Germany vs Italy World Cup matches:

1970: Italy 4 West Germany 3
(Boninsegna,Brunich,Riva,Rivera - Schillinger, Muller {2})

Before my time, older football fans consider this match the best ever. Germany was going out when Karl Heinz Schillinger, an Inter player, scored in injury time. At the end of regulation time the score was 1-1, the rest of the goals were scored in extra time.

1978: West Germany 0 Italy 0

I saw this match on closed circuit TV at the CNE Colosseum, it was the first WC game I ever saw. Even thought the game remained scoreless, Meier and Zoff were the stars of the game, it was an exciting free flowing game with both goalies making stupendous saves. Both goalies were also selected to 4 National teams.

1982: Italy 3 West Germany 1
(Rossi,Tardelli,Altobelli - Breitner)

Paul Breitner was attempting to become the Cafu of his generation (he won the Cup in 74) and he was Germany's best player. Gerrmany had the momentum after Cabrini missed a penalty kick, but the legenday Marco Tardelli ( a player Italy has never replaced) was not about to let Germany control the midfield. At the end of the day Italy prevailed because Rummeniege wouldn't challenge Gentile.

As anyone noticed that something is missing from this World Cup. Franz Beckenbauer is omnipresent but where the hell is Lothar Matheius?
