Seems to have been a rash of celebrity deaths lately. A shame when so many well loved showbiz veterans leave us all in such a short time.

My mom used to listen to him and lately (last 5 years or so) I find myself downloading old country songs that remind me of her when she was alive. Conway Twitty, Kenny Rogers, Merle Haggard and the other Kings of Country.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to watch him perform live 2 years ago. Not the most energetic show I've ever seen, however, to watch such a legend. Brought back tons of memories. He will be missed. So many of the classic artists are gone. "Makes me wonder who's gonna fill their shoes"!

Used to see him quite a bit on the show Music City Tonight with Crook and Chase back in the 90's . He lead quite a life . Alcohol , drugs . Surprised he lasted till 81 .

I Don't Need No Rock'in Chair !!!

As a footnote Shania Twain was supposed to have been one of the weekly singers on that show but the Head of TNN said she wasn't good enough . I guess she showed him .

RIP George.[/QUOTE]

I believe the four greatest country icons to be George, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson. Only two left now.
