so i have a 10 GIG file i need to drop into my external Hard drive
its formatted to fat32 only because my blue ray (sony) can recognize the external
this way i can watch and listen to anything up to a size of a dvd..

when its formatted to ntfs there is no restrictions on size except for the fact that when i hook up to the blue ray usb it does not see the drive at all

now that its formatted to fat32 it sees it but i have a size limitation...

am i sol here? is there a free software out there that can help?

Better Google that information before DJ gets on your ass about posting a question/seeking advice or an answer for a technology related question in the proper forum. ;)

That sounds like an interesting question I had never had to deal with. Doesn't M$ have 'help Forums' like Linux and Apple for this? They may be very helpful answering questions for something like that.

You might be SOL. Under FAT32 files are limited to 4GB.

Check to see if there are any firmware upgrades for your Blu-Ray player that would let it recognize NTFS.
Otherwise start looking for a new player that will support NTFS.

can the file be broken up into parts aka compressed? and still play on your blue ray device? You might want to look at a media streaming device as well.

enyaw - yes the files can be compressed or split up winzip7 into the hard drive but cannot be put back together on the external hard drive

Can you burn the file to a dvd? Something the size of a dual layer which will hold 8g's. What other formats does your player read ie avi mp4 etc? If it can read other formats I have a free program that can convert the file. That will decrease the size of the file. But I'm not at home at the moment
