Oil companies, like all resource companies can make crazy money when their commodity is up. They can also lose crazy money when it is down. Look at oil company profits in 2020.

Oil is expensive because of woke western governments villainizing the oil industry for years now. Would you spend money looking for more oil when your government is trying to shut down your industry?
All comes down to supply and demand (economics 101) which every woke leader has absolutely no idea how our economy actually works. The drama teacher was telling the media last year that they can afford to continue running deficits because interest rates were low. That was a head scratcher! Another one of his ignorant opinions is he doesn't see the business case for exporting LNG to Europe. 🤔

Biden is even worse, guy kills the pipeline first day in power and then is begging the Saudis for more oil 18 months later. We have complete idiots in power. That is why you are paying for it at the pumps.

Also, you can always buy oil stocks to more than make up for the pump increases. They should remain strong for awhile.

You have obviously been drinking the kool aid for far too long, you don't seem to have any idea how things work. That's ok, neither does the drama teacher.
Oil companies aren't good or bad, they are just companies whose job is to make money. Google how much the drama teachers government will be making off these horrible companies. It will surprise you.

You are conflating multiple issues, none of which have anything to do with this topic.

With respect to my comment I was not making a value judgment. I am heavily investment in oil stocks so I am happy. But that does not change the fact.

I didn't reply to your comment. Not even sure what you are talking about. I don't care if you have oil stocks. Everything I said is true. If you disagree, then state what you disagree with.

The global market place dictates the price of oil, however other issues can also influence the price such as geo political risks especially in the Middle East, the war in the Ukraine, issues with the Saudi’s etc.

Are you seriously suggesting that price and profit are unrelated? Oil companies control supply and therefore influence prices.
Oil companies do not control supply
they sell what they are able to produce

their production is determined by their exploration and drilling programs & access to pipelines
Government policy determines drilling , exploration and pipeline access via permits & regulations

you know not what you speak of

corporate greed did not sudden appear post pandemic

food inflation is much higher 11.4% (and increasing) than CPI of 6.9%
yet the grocery margins remains a miniscule but relatively constant 3.8%
their cost of goods sold has increased due to

1. foolish govt energy policies &
2. foolish govt money printing

jiffy peanut butter ?
How much do you want to bet Robet Riech did not include increased distribution, marketing and overhead costs in his biased analysis ?

no sense drilling if you do not has access to pipelines to move the product
you need a permit to construct a feeder pipeline, which are not being granted

you fell for the democrats slight of hand lie

case in point is the energy east pipeline in Canada
the feds regulated the pipeline must be responsible for all downstream emissions
that is just plain ridiculous & physically impossible

this killed the project

I assume that you understand the laws of supply and demand and perhaps price elasticity. Who do you think is controlling supply?
