Is it true that a large section of downtown Toronto will be "sealed off" for the G-8 conference in June? How are the guys (and ladies) suppose to get around if they have an appointment in this "security zone"? Will there be checkpoints? Anybody have any details?

Security arrangements are still being finalized, but yes, there will be a secure zone downtown that will be limited to those with proper accreditation (summit participants, staff, and residents). They have not yet announced what exactly the secure zone will be.

I noticed that the Royal York Hotel has already cleaned house by firing 22 unsuitable staff in advance of the summit.

Tee OH!
The G20 Summit will be at the Metro Convention Centre so you can guess which areas will be affected. I'm sure ladies will have to make arrangements. Be ready for delays due to security and protesters.

I've worked at a G7 and a G8 in the past and security will be very tight. I expect that the downtown hotels will be zipped up as tight as a virgin's ass, and that the chain link fence will be going up again. The area around the Convention centre will most likely be off limits. People that LIVE in the Zone will need to be vetted and have passes. If you have an incall in the Zone, you had better think of a way of getting the girls in, and marketing to the G8 people, 'cause no self respecting hobbiest will want to explain to the OPP, the RCMP, CSIS, Canada Command (military), the FBI, the Secret Service, the CIA and just about everyone else who wants to stick their nose in just where you are going or why. If it is like the ones I worked with, expect to be challenged and have your ID checked at least 10 times as you go to where you want to be. If you are allowed in. I don't think "My blue balls need to be released" is going to be accepted as a valid reason to enter the Zone.

Driving will be a total f###ing mess, and even the TTC will be swept for bombs and terrorists, so expect some delays.

If the kiddies want to come to town and play anarchist, it will be a very entertaining afternoon. I guarantee that the security services already know what the kiddies are going to do and have drawn up a number of contingency plans. It is much harder to beat the shit out of the anarchists away from the media spotlight because of the popularity of digital devices.

If it's going to be held at the Metro Convention Center and the head honcho's, I mean PENCIL PUSHERS are staying at the Royal York you can expect a "secure" zone of King St. to the north to Lakeshore to the south and Yonge St. to the east and Spadina to the west.
ANYTHING downtown is going to be a joke!

This is a pretty large "no fly" zone (Spadina to the West). Plus, I guess hotel rooms anywhere will be scarce.

The Hot Zone has already been established. The fencing will be going up. Compromised is correct, there will be mass security. In fact, most of the hotel rooms are for security agents. 5000 rooms with 2-4 in a room, more if required.

There are 3 make shift detention centres being put up.

Good luck getting around.

I wonder if Porter Airlines flying from the Island Airport will be affected? If yes, this is Mayor Miller and the Islanders getting revenge.

You really don't want to know
This little bit of information has been sent out in advance of any official notice by the City of Toronto. It's specifically in regards to the issuing of city road occupancy permits during the summit. Here are the dates and the affected areas that the City will no be allowed to issue permits for as per the RCMP Security directives.

-June 11 to June 20, inclusive, in the area bounded by: King Street E/W to the north; Lake Ontario to the south; Yonge Street to the east; and Spadina Avenue to the west.
-June 21 to June 24, inclusive, in the area bounded by: Queen Street E/W to the north; Lake Ontario to the south; Jarvis Street to the east; and Bathurst Street to the west.
-June 25 to June 27, inclusive, in the area bounded by: Bloor Street E/W to the north; Lake Ontario to the south; Parliament Street to the east; and Bathurst Street to the west.
-June 28 to July 1, inclusive, in the area bounded by: King Street E/W to the north; Lake Ontario to the south; Yonge Street to the east; and Spadina Avenue to the west.

Also keep in mind that the 427 and the Gardiner will be shut down temporarily for any motorcades travelling to and from the airport.

Wow, no wonder there always seems to be mass arrests and demonstrations. With this kind of attitude coming from 'authorities' I'm surprised we're not already in a police state.
