So I was just looking in the tech forum and saw a thread about, "how to disable "reply to all" " Which made me laugh right away because it reminded me of a story my first Team senior tech told us when i finished my windows xp tech support training.
The site i worked in also did office/outlook support as well. and he was working there when the story happened.

So guy calls up looking for help with Outlook XP.
His problem is, his spicy little secratary sends him a truly nasty email, explaining all the wonderful things she wanted to do the next day etc etc etc. The customer calling for help, decided to send an email back that was just as filthy. The problem was he accidentally clicked REPLY TO ALL. some of the people on that list were, just about every person working in the office, and HIS WIFE AND KIDS! The fine people on the Outlook team really really really wanted to him this guy out. but in the end of the day trying to recall an email is next to impossible especailly if people are outside of the network.

Lesson, ALWAYS ALWAYS, watch which button you click when replying to an email

This story doesn't make sense.

If the secretary sends a nasty email to this guy, then unless she copied everyone including his wife and kids on the original, him hitting "Reply to All" would only result in sending an email back to the secretary.

I heard this around 2003, I might of goofed a couple finer details, might of been choosing a contact and hitting the all option, but that reply to all thread suddenly made this pop back into my head, and i'm sure that wasn't the only time we got a call like that just happened to be one story i heard. either way be careful what you click.

I've done it a few times with even basic boring stuff like, applying for early release/leave early. or something just as boring, you feel kinda dumb after it's pointed out to you in the lunch room.

A lot of urban legends start like this - adding 'what if' to the story to spice it up. The wife and kids on a company distribution list ?? really ?? Next the naked picture of the president's daughter will be woven into the story to add even more spice.

Other than maybe a mix up with "contact list/reply to all" Thats the story i heard, The kind of stuff you hear over the phone when doing tech support is amazing.
Before I took my first call, I did a shift of listening in to live calls, One of them being, this old southern sounding guy had some internet issue but before the tech could really get into it there was some people making a lot of noise in the background, shouting, slamming doors etc, the caller comes back on the phone, and in a southern backwoods accnet says "listen buddy, i gotta go my next door neighbour just called my son a mother fucker and said he was going to shoot him!" image that the night before you have to take your first call.
A Friend of mine got a call her third week, from some rich guy that instead of fixing computer problems destroys his computers and buys a new one and was only calling to get some new idea's after consulting with a few people they came up with a boat anchor, the guy apparently loved the idea, I read the case notes on it, no BS.
I had 3 different people call up with problems with the CIA hacking there computers which weren't even connected to the internet.
within 48 hours I had 2 different ladies call and ask if the error message screen windows gives if the computer wasn't shut down properly, was a virus.
One call of note was a woman that used her husbands computer and messed something up, we couldn't fix it before he got home and he started beating the shit out of her with the tech still on the line.

These are just a handful of things I can think of from 6-7 years ago that i have seen the notes on or have been on the phone. and i left a lot out. So i have no doubt it was true.

My primary problem is the reverse.
I have on many occasions wanted to 'reply all,but my email program defaults to 'reply.' So I often end up having to send the message twice to make sure everyone gets it.
