Hi,

I think the Dentist-recommended schedule of having your teeth cleaned every 4 months is a money-grab and not really necessary. When I was a child, I only had my teeth cleaned once a year, and they are in good health. How often do you have yours cleaned?

Like everything else, the people "recommending" the service are the ones that stand to benefit from it... e.g. See your Doctor more often, (so he can bill OHIP), change your oil every 5000 kms when usually 8,000 to 10,000 is sufficient etc. yada, yada, yada... It's called self preservation.;)

I also have mine professionally cleaned once a year. I do however brush and floss several times daily as well.

Just my nickels worth.

I do the once every 4 months cleaning scheme as well - but you are correct it used to be every 6 months was recommended. After years of wine and coffee drinking ( smoking as well before I quit) I think the enamel breaks down a bit so I'm willing to do it that extra time.

As far as tarter build-up if the hygenist doesn't need to do anything other than a cursory scrape you could probably go back to twice a year.

Depends on your teeth/mouth/chemistry. I need to go more often than twice a year or they need a jackhammer to clean them. I hate it when that happens.

depends on Daty's recent discoveries.... Natural ladies reduce freqency with the extra flossing provided also squirters can blast out that pesky hard to reach food but then best is a dental hygenist who does't shave it and squirts .... ah my quest continues

Time for lunch :p

My insurance covers twice a year regular cleaning. I specifically request that my dentist and not a hygenist do the cleaning. My self-employed RMT who is not covered by insurance was advised by her dentist to go 4 times a year which she thought was ridiculous.

Similar to furnace cleaning, these professionals do like to have a regular revenue stream (as we all do).

Hi,

Every 6 months. Plus brush after every meal (especially if the last eating is before sleeping) and floss after every brush, even if you "ate nothing", but brushed anyway. Yes, I mean it. Toothpaste I recommend is Arm & Hammer's Dental Care, and not any of the other A&H releases.

Do not use liquid fluoride drinks, etc., they actually cause cavities by breaking down the enamel. Honest. Also beware of all that 4 out of 5 Dentist recommendation nonsense. Who's the dude/babe that is against it, I wonder?

I go once every 3 months but I have a gum problem. Now as for flouride it's not needed if one lives in a city as it's adeed to teh local water, however if one uses water from a wewll one should use it ocassionally.

I wonder how many people brush AFTER breakfast?
That is soooo grosss! I personally know a couple of friends who do that and it is disgusting. Try to picture the various bacteria you swallow with every gulp of your morning coffee! ewwwww!

I have my teeth cleaned every 3 or 4 years. Every time I go in, they fuss and tell me that they are going to have to book an other appointment to get all the gunk. Then I get in the chair and the girl gets my teeth cleaned and comments how surprised she is that my teeth are cleaner than most of the people that see her 4 times a year.

Good oral care is important. Take the time to brush correctly, use mouthwash if you are out and can't brush, and watch what you eat.

Put them in a glass every night with "puritanical fungicide". Tastes like hell but they sure are clean,

I go every 4 months because my dental hygenist is freakin' hot. I told the receptionist to schedule me as often as possible and I'm covered by insurance, so why not?

In between school and landing a job w/ dental benefits I went several years w/o seeing the dentist so at first I was going every 4 months just to get things back under control. But now I go every 6 months.
