Just found out that Studiotax is now charging $15 a return. Any free (or almost free) tax software out there?

Says pay what you want, so could be free. Haven't used it so can't comment on it.
Thanks. Studiotax use to be the same. Donate what you can after you paid all your taxes.

One can always call the CRA and if they answer they can confirm if it is on their "approved" list. Not sure if this list is public.

I use simpletax, turbotax and ufile

But i prefer simpletax much more easier and user friendly

Its mainly still freeish which i enjoy and the fact you can hook it up to your cra account is great

I've used them for about 5 years now. I actually paid last year willingly because they are that good.

I've convinced a few friends to switch from paying H&R Block to them.

I agree. I used them for the first time recently. I was amazed at how fast it was. They asked for a 19 dollar and change donation. I happily agreed. Cheapest rate I have ever paid. The last time H and R charged me 335.00 dollars. It was under not normal circumstances. I usually paid 60 dollars and had to make a couple of trips to the accountant. This was just so simple.

Did you mean $35 and not $335?

One of the reasons I like Studiotax is that one can work on the return offline and only go online for the few minutes to send the return.

Can any of the aforementioned tax softwares be done offline?

What made me decide to donate last year was the improvement on recommending deductions and credit. They analyze your data and find ways to maximize you return.

I'd only pay if I needed a real tax guru. It's sad for independent tax businesses, but it hard to beat free and flexable.

This has a list of all the certified websites and software

No it was 335.00 dollars. For reasons I wont go into, I was in a rush to get this done, and had to pay these crooks. As I said, for the last 20 years or so I paid and accounting firm average of about 60 dollars a year.
