Former UN weapons inspector in child-sex sting

STROUDSBURG, Pa. – A former U.N. weapons inspector in Iraq is facing child-sex charges.

Scott Ritter is charged in Pennsylvania with unlawful sexual contact with a minor for alleged online exchanges with police posing as a 15-year-old girl. The Pocono Record first reported the case Thursday.

Monroe County authorities say they traced the exchange through a cellphone number he provided. Police say Ritter gave them a video of him masturbating during an Internet chat.

The 48-year-old Ritter has been free on bail since waiving a Dec. 17 preliminary hearing. He has acknowledged facing similar 2001 charges in New York that were dismissed.

His lawyer did not return a phone message.

Ritter resigned in 1998 after seven years as a UN weapons inspector and was a harsh critic of the war in Iraq.

Shocking, sad and appalling. Ritter's account of his time as a UN weapons inspector was very interesting, "inside pool" kind of stuff.

A question: why on earth would anyone send a video of themselves masturbating over the internet?

Fine, but if you've ever read his writing or heard him speak, you'll realize that he is a highly intelligent, normal sounding, well-educated, career military officer. He's not a dullard, although I guess it now goes without saying that he seems to be a freak. I guess it's like the high government officials who get caught manning the glory holes in airport bathrooms: you just never know how kinky someone will turn out to be.

You can define it as kinky or you can define it as gross, but for a well educated inteligent man he certainly was stupid

No political significance. An intelligent accomplished man who had a perversion that he could not control and did not wish to seek intervention for. Did something stupid, thoughtless and evil and now his life is wrecked.
