Former top Apple fanboy now rocks all Android devices

Former Mac evangelist Guy Kawasaki says he's purged all iOS devices from his life.

We already know Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak uses both iOS and Android devices, but this week we learned that the former evangelist who helped create the original "cult of Mac" has left iOS behind and gone all Android.

It's been decades since Guy Kawasaki preached the gospel of Apple in the '80s, but only about a year since he jumped ship as an iPhone owner for an Android phone with 4G LTE -- the Droid Razr Maxx. Kawasaki was quoted in ReadWrite saying he no longer uses any Apple mobile products:

"I fell in love with Android on the smartphone, and then I got a Nexus 7 and started using Android on the tablet as well... To me the great irony is that Apple's slogan was 'Think Different,' but today if you think different you're looking at Android."

Kawasaki says he sees no reason to switch back to iOS now that the iPhone 5 has LTE and the iPad Mini offers a similar form factor to the Nexus 7.

Today he says he uses a Samsung Galaxy S3 and loves the fact that he can use the same cable interchangeably between his Nexus 7 and GS3.

"What a concept! A standard cable," Kawasaki said.

Ouch. That's got to smart, Apple. With so much changing teams going on, someone better call Stephen Sinofsky to see if he's now become a Linux guy.

Apple may want to rethink that slogan "Think Different".....

It's a good thing that Samsung did all of that copying of the iPhone 3 after their Galaxy S. If they hadn't, Guy would never have moved over to the Galaxy S III.

With recently purchasing a Nexus 7 I can definitely see why Android is more fun and "better" than iOS. Project Butter has surely enhanced and improved the Android operating system. Lots more customization and open ended. Now I can see why many folks call Apple iOS outdated and boring. Yet on the hardware and design aspect Apple wins hands down. Now that Apple has removed Forstall hopefully this will improve on software design.

Since having both operating systems I can say that I have no preference. I like both since they have their pluses and minuses. Apple maybe boring in terms of OS but it has great hardware design and an amazing ecosystem. I love that retinal display and the availability of baccarat software to me is immensely helpful. Wish I could say the same with Android within this aspect. Apple you don't need any anti-virus software yet with Android you do. With that I would only install free programs only and would never give my credit card info on Android. Plus I would only trade securities on an Apple device. What I do not like about Apple is that you have to go thru iTunes. With Android you can transfer files directly with your PC. This makes for a great e-reader and watching TV shows and movies. So there you have it.

There is no bigger troll on this board than you OTB. nuff said about that!

to many, the founder of Cult Of Mac switching to Android and loving it is interesting news....Woz's appreciation and admiration of Android is well documented.

maybe it's time you got off your high horse and accept that Apple is not everything to everyone....just to you!

this quote from a website defines you quite clearly....

Kawasaki is probably best known as a former Apple evangelist, a relentless promoter whose work in the 1980s helped create what’s known today as the cult of Mac.

It’s especially weird because in the world of Apple fanboys there is no greater evil than Google’s Android operating system. The late Steve Jobs vowed to wage “thermonuclear war” against Android, which he considered a ripoff of Apple’s ideas.

Apple’s snobby fanbloggers sneer at Android as an ugly, stupid, low-class knockoff used only by people who have no taste or who can’t afford Apple products.
btw I would be interested in reading about the Samsung Head designer that loves iOS please post the link

I'm more into Android than IOS as far as OS's go but have to wonder if you get paid for all these threads or is it just fanboy instinct..

Ummm... I'm confused....you said Samsungs design head....but i only see somthing from the newly appointed Strategy Chief...........who only like Apples ecosystem better....but he was already a long time mac fan before joining Samsung, so that's quite understandable.

however he does go on to say this...
OK, so think about Apple compared to Samsung. I use a Mac, actually, at home. I’ve always used Mac, an iPhone, and an iPad. I also have the Galaxy. So I’m a great example.

If you look at the strengths of Apple, in a way it’s not the product per se. It’s that consumers like their ecosystem such as iCloud. I like that my family 6,000 miles away in Korea is able to see my schedule and see all of my contacts and photos. It is sticky, but it is a proprietary architecture.

Sohn goes on to note that he believes Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Nexus are better than the iPhone but that the convenience of Apple's connected ecosystem brings a critical aspect to the user experience.
So, troll away, OTB I'm still waiting for the link to the Samsung design head speaking out.....should be an interesting read.....or perhaps a very long wait for a reply lol

In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may also refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."

Don't know what is going on but things are really crummy with iTunes and all. Since the upgrade to 11.0 for iTunes and iOS to 6.0 things are way below par as to what made Apple a good to great experience. Upgrading/updating apps wireless wise does not work at all so you have to upgrade through iTunes and then transfer to your device. So going through iTunes the upgrading takes +20 minutes plus where back then take a minute or less. Apparently this is widely discussed in Apple forums. Well this goes for old Apple devices pre-iPhone 5/iPod Touch 5. Hopefully you folks who own the latest and "greatest" of Apple products does not experience this annyance.

I am going back to pen and paper. And smoke signals and pigeons for texting/messaging. I think I am done with this tablet binge. A Nexus 7 and an iPod Touch 4 Gen are more than enough to meet my needs. I thought that having an iPod Touch - Nexus 7 - iPad would be the ideal tech model for me. After reading through how Apple tends to side line their own devices forcing you to buy upgraded hardware. Android is also not innocent from this as well. So I am going to have to pull the plug since I am not playing this sheep game any further. Blah.

All this tech is taking up too much of my time not to mention a minor dent on my bank account.

What exactly is so exciting about Apple's hardware? Every phone looks almost exactly the same: Rectangular touch screen with a button or 2. Wow, I can see how that takes time to perfect. Once you put an otterbox on top of it, you can't even see the damn thing. All that matter with smart phones now is software, and iOS and android are both just as capable as each other.

Don't actually find Apple products exciting like you may think. I find Apple hardware to be well thought out and designed with a more human element to it. Plus I find them to be more sturdy and solid. I wish I could say the same for many of the products say from Samsung. Even though the components are definitely up to par I just couldn't get over that plastic cheap toy feel in some of Samsung's products. This is just an example and don't want to single out Samsung but many companies follow suit. Also my Nexus 7 has a faint squeaky sound on the left side of the screen when I lightly press it. You would not notice it once you put on a protective case. Does not affect performance of the screen but kind of annoying. This is something I don't find on an Apple iPod/iPad/iPhone. As I stated before both Android and Apple have their pluses and minuses. Software side I say Android is the winner. On the hardware side it would be Apple.

Well anything can change in the future. Especially in tech. A couple of years from now who knows who will be the big honchos winning our wallets.

I have to agree with you. Apple on the industrial design is great, but for the OS, it's hands down Android. Now if only we could somehow combine the two.

There is a new iOS app that is now available that allows you to simply access your Mac (not sure about PC) and drag and drop files onto your iPad. Starts with "Phone" and then another word. I'll find it eventually. So, that'll fix your iTunes issue.

As an aside, a lot of the "issues" that people have with iOS can be solved with the "there's an app for that" riposte.
