Okay - enough of the Howard Hughes jokes going around here - this is an actual serious post by me.

Now this is going to sound really odd - but I am considering buying a plane. Yes - a plane. For those terbites who have their pilot's license, please pm me, as I have a bunch of questions to ask them.

Before you do - I was considering a Beech 18 - although, I have an issue - I need a plane that can do short take-offs and landings, but at the same time, would love to have one that can go a distance - Beech 18 is good for that, however, I don't think it will work on the take-off/landing.

Anyone have any suggestions - please pm me!

hmmmmmm...

Just thought of something - having an aircraft like that - it would be fun to have a "co-pilot/flight attendant" with me now and again...hmmmmmmm...any takers to Las Vegas?????

Goober - your mom doesn't qualify.

try www.beech18.net its a good place to start and has always been very informative.

The beech 18 is a wonderful plane.. its "reasonable" on consumables.

As to short - how short is short... are we talking Carp, Ontario airport short or Buttonville, short..

thx. for the info.

I can build landing strips on my properties - but I need to know the length required for it - therefore, I can build them to suit!

Ok, Take-off Distance: Roll 2,200', Clear 50' 2,640 (max load)
realize this is a beech... you will need a hard packed surface not grass...

Asphalt/concrete okay for that???

As for runway distance - one of the properties will be around 2,800 acres - so I think I can get a strip of that size in there!

If I was building a runnway for my own use only I would likely use (and have) a product that is called traffic bond... It is really just everything from a quarry, 3/4 inch stone to the fine dust.

The nice thing about this is that it is easy to put down.. usually you only need a dozer and the dump drivers can spread it evenly, but once it sets up, it is like concrete.

A lot of trucking terminals use it instead of concrete because you can top it off every couple of years without big expense.

You will also need to check with the zoning people in you area. A lot of area's don't allow "private airstrips".

Notice he said 'around' 2800 acres. Sounds to me like he bought a thin strip of land around somebody's property.

Give yourselves up, we've got you surrounded!
