Splitting off from the other topic, I'd like to hear again what the guys think about SP sites which are done in Flash.

I like Flash - it looks good, it's catchy, and gives a slick, professional look to a site. That said, I know it drives some people nuts, and alienating clients isn't really good business practice.

Does it affect your decision to proceed into a web site either way if it's exclusively in flash?

I've also added options regarding sound in the poll, since I've heard it also pisses some guys off if it comes blaring out while they're surfing at work.

I voted html no sound. I have always had strong opinions about this topic.

I believe an SP site should be clean and fast loading. It should have contact information on very page, rates, in or out or both, general location of incall if available, services available, and of course pictures. A schedule would be nice as well.

I definitely like the look of flash sites. On the other hand I get suspicious of sites that have great looks but little or no content. It is great when you feel the web site is continuously updated with new content and is not some static web site done by a web designer with your standard format and content that pretty much everyone already has.

So, If the site looks good with flash I like it. But if the SP wants to really personalize her web site maybe flash is not the way to go if you continually want to modify content on the web site and need to call your web designer every time to do this.

The BEST sites have:
- photos that are not so flatteringly taken that you don't recognize the SP when you meet her. Ideally, the photos would be taken by me :D The best ones reveal faces.
- rates
- services listed CBJ or BBBJ, etc.
- hours available
- if incall, approximate location

All the rest is fluff and gets in the way (at least for me).

IMO, The site should load by default to html, and enter the flash site as an option, same as at least 1 advertiser here has done!

Who was one of the first CANADIAN SP WEB SITES to use flash?? To Use Video from Jamaica??

Anyone remember DECEMBERSDEN ?

Flash kinda looks passe now  So whats next web pros ??
I don't think it's passe when done right.. ie, not overused. Being a web designer, I can sympathize with those who want a little pizzaz on their site. However, speaking as a hobbier, when i wanna get laid, i don't care for flash or animations but the photo gallery, rates, schedule and location. Video helps to spark the libido but not necessary. Keep it simple is my motto.

Wow, I never thought I would hear that from a web designer :)

I also think that a basic html design has a better chance of actually capturing the true personality of the SP verses the creativity of the web designer

It is like professional photographs, few SP's can live up to the hype when you meet them in person

here, there and everywhere!
K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid!)

plain vanilla html is what works for me. In fact if Flash loads, I click off ... if java loads, I click off ... if sound loads, I click off ... And that's true on all sites not just hobby sites. If it doesn't load fast and clean, I'm simply not interested.
KISS - it's an old acronym, but it's words to live by.

cynical... Flash is for people who don't understand design and also cannot think like a customer.

The best SP site by FAR, design and content wise, is Sorel's. Epitome of simple, elegant, tasteful, and complete.

So I Guess Flash is Out, Then?

Well, this has personally made me put all plans for a flash based site re-design on hold.

I've always aimed for 'simplest browser' capability - iow, I design with the idea in mind of whether or not a client on dial up and with a less than current browser will be able to access sites in a reasonable amount of time. I check in Explorer, Firefox and Opera, and at two screen resolutions.

I learned this the hard way, when my old site didn't function properly at 468x600, or when using Firefox. It also didn't work for those using the aol browser, but pfft - who cares if aol users can see it? ;)

Flash is evil... little snot nosed "web designers" who care more about their artistic and creative expression instead of creating a usable user interface are evil and should all be poisoned...
