Why did I do it?

We were asked in my building a couple of weeks ago for volunteers on each floor to act as Fire Wardens in case of a drill or real alarm. As nobody else was coming forward on my floor at my end of the building like a fool I said I would do it. I had no idea how much this duty would entail. For one thing since my area of responsibility includes the public area where clients come in I am responsible for them as well. Just to make matters more fun we are having a drill at 2pm today. (One of if not the busiest day of the week) Seems they are taking this very serious as well. Not like the last two buildings where we were and everybody just went outside and had a smoke. No head count or anything like that. Now we have to do head count, check washrooms, storage closets etc... I mean I am even suppose to stop people from taking their coffee with them in the stairwell to go down etc… all makes sense to me but I can’t wait till I have to tell all the caffeine addicts in my office that we are going down 14 flights of stairs will be outside for 10 mins and they can’t take their coffee. LOL.

Anyway… anybody else ever have to do this before?

Any funny stories?

6 mins and counting…

Fire Warden....it could be fun..

At our company, the Fire Warden on each floor gets a cool hat and a vest to wear and they get to give orders......Don't forget some women love guys in uniform who tell other people what to do... ;) ...

Not fun

I was on the "Fire Brigade" in our building.
That was a mistake because when the alarm goes off the floor is announced over the building PA system and that floor as well as the floor above and below have to evacuate.........
Well the problem comes when it is not your floor.......we have to grab a fire extinguisher and get to that floor.......
Now it is not bad when you are on the top and have to go down to help......but when you are on the bottom level and they need you up at the top.........
Well we all know that the elevators stop working during fire alarms......sooooooo....you have to hike your sorry ass up!

So wearing a hat and looking around is not bad......unles you have to do what I do!!!!!

It's all over and done!

No more for another year.

No hat or vest for me... although I noticed some from other floors had them. Maybe because we are new in this building just since last May.

Anyway... more or less I just had to do a head count check the washrooms etc. Only prob was I lost count at the first redhead and starting counting double. LOL.

Fun part was there is a coffee shop / snack place on our main floor so they gave out free cookies and stuff to everyone while we were waiting to go back in. :)

La la land
14 mins

Don't want to scare anyone but... someone I know had to do this fire drill in one of the bank tower of TO. This person's office is at the top of the building. And I mean the top ; it took them during the fire drill; 14 minutes for 100 people to get off. And that was only in the labatory/theory case scenerio.

Could you imagine if there was a fire in the middle floor?

You did it because like or not you have consertive values and see your life as not being as important as the life of others. You view survival as freedom and understand that families survial is key to the future.
