This thread may be unfair.

The provincial election is still five months away and Dalton has a unique talent for messing things up. To say this is the "final nail" may be a bit premature.

Except Toronto cops, of course. Rob Ford doled out the gravy heavily to them, giving them a huge pay increase, making them the richest cops in the country, and setting a precedent for a huge wage rise for other essential services. Oh yeah, the TTC is now an essential service.

McGuinty supporters -- whatever's left of them -- better hope not.

I'm not convinced this is the only deal that was cut in order to get union buy-in for the alleged "wage freeze."

anytime fuji can get a jab in at Ford he takes it. the guy can do no right in his books. in my opinion Toronto cops should be the highest paid in the country so I don't have a problem with the contract. i would have preferred it be loaded on the back end but its nice to see a quick settlement.

How stupid can you get, you give 38,000 people a wage hike and you expect to keep it a secret? ASTOUNDING... as for the Toronto Cops deal, it has pretty much doomed Ford IMHO. How can you make such a deal with the cops and not expect EVERY union to expect the same?

Let's see if council passes it, if it does.. that's Ford's goof up. The police board of course works for Ford, so it's already his goof up, but it'll be official if he supports it in council.

Yup. That's typical of the right wing: Spending controls go out the window as soon as it's a "security" issue. Who cares about balancing the budget, taxpayer dollars grow on trees.

It's one fucking percent folks .. Tim Hudak's CONservatives are getting desperate already.

Nice try. It's an additional one per cent on top of a two per cent increase that had already been negotiated and publicly announced.

And it was kept secret by a government that has publicly claimed it has been trying to rein in spending.

The fallout is pretty obvious. McGuinty looks dishonest once again, and unions, managers and arbitrators throughout the province say the news about the secret top-up for one union will create "labour chaos."

Given that it's such a wonderful deal for taxpayers, it's a mystery to me why the McGuinty government fought so hard to keep it a secret.
