does anyone know where on the web I can find a reliable Wordperfect to Word convertor, I am trying to convert a file from Wordperfect 9 to Word 2000 and its coming out all haywire when I save it as Word or RTF file, this file has boxes and two columns and I am trying to do the best I can without having to retype the whole thing.

You can try OpenOffice (http://www.openoffice.org/). It's a free, open source office suite, including a word processor (Openoffice.org Writer) which can import and export ("Save As") various "foreign" file formats. You should be able to open Writer, import the Wordperfect file, and Save it as a Word file.

It's pretty up-to-date with the various files and embedded capabilities, but there is (as pointed out) still some chance that your file makes use of more complex and incomplete formatting. At least you'll get to see the intermediate result as you open the original file.

You can print out the document, scan it and then use a OCR program (ie. Abbyy Finereader...etc) or whatever came with your scanner, and then export it to Word.

Word 2000 has a built in translator that can read Wordperfect 6. You should try to save a native Wordperfect file in version 6 and then try to open in it in Word. You must have the file conversion utility installed, you may need to install them from your original Word CD.
