NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AP) -- Five fifth-grade students face criminal charges after authorities said four of them had sex in front of other students in an unsupervised classroom and kept a classmate posted as a lookout for teachers.

The students were arrested Tuesday at the Spearsville school in rural north Louisiana, authorities said. Two 11-year-old girls, a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year old boy were charged with obscenity, a felony. An 11-year-old boy, the alleged lookout, was charged with being an accessory.

Two points.

- in my time of elementary school, sex among fifth graders; among 11, 12, 13 yr olds was unheard of. I'm amazed 11, 12, 13 year olds and fifth graders even know what sex is and how to do it, and can achieve it.When I was that age, I didn't even have the slightest clue what sex was. If you asked me at that age, I would be like, huh? Which begs the question. Who is teaching all this stuff to fifth graders, 11, 12, 13 yr olds? To think about it. 11 years old is barely out of diapers.

They didn't use condoms. It was most likely unprotected sex.

- Whats this world coming to? Where HIV, STDS are being transmitted and spread among 11 year olds' sexual flings.


- the article says the teacher was gone only for 15 minutes. It was obviously planned a long time ago and pre-meditated. They barely have enough time to take their clothes off!

- if they're doing this stuff in classrooms. I'm afraid to think of what they're doing outside of the classroom! Possible much worse. 11 year old guys going around thinking they're pimps and having a string of one night stands with multiple partners. Blowjobs during recess, in the school washrooms?

I watched an episode of Law and Order, where they were talking about a new trend, where 11 year olds (or was it high school kids) had sex and orgies .."just to get to know each other" and just as a way of being "friendly"

My ex was/is a primary school teacher, and sex incidents were a regular part of things that had to be dealt with as early as grade 3. (These incidents obviously would range from quite innocent right up through). What does society expect with the liberalization of life that today's youngsters are exposed to in tv, movies, media and society at large. Many activities that were single sex things like sports and clubs are now coed...(heaven forbid we actually treat boys and girls differently). Couple that with single parent families, both parents working and other family situations, and there is plenty of opportunity to be curious and explore.

I don't specifically remember how old I was the first time I played doctor with a girl, but I suspect it was right around the age of the children here...obviously things in this situation went far beyond anything considered acceptable, but I would suggest that todays parents should not ignore the reality that kids grow up fast these days.

When they should really be in grades 7 and 8, these two are products of idiotic parents who should have never been allowed to reproduce and of course passed on the notions of hard work (seeing their kids are still in grade 5) and just common sense and decency (sexual acts in a classroom)

Wait a sec... that was me! It was at an inter-school track meet when I was in 5th grade. A bunch of my classmates went off to a secluded spot to have a little fun. There was nothing more than kissing, though. I was too chickensh*t even for that, so I was the lookout.

One thing that should be noted is that this sex incident was in rural Louisiana. Could this explain the older ages or is that a stereotype? One comparison I can draw to my experience is that there's not much else to do in small towns.
