Fido Annoyance : Name Display

Starting May 6 Fido will now Display the Account holder name

along with the number. Now this makes hobbying a tad more difficult for Fido

users. Apparently you can't just block name display but keep the number.

I hope Fido will let you change your name.

This new service currently offered to monthly package subscribers, will display the NAME and phone number of the person calling, even if it wasn't entered in their phone book. As a result, when placing a call, your name and number will be displayed.

If you don't want your name and number to be displayed, press #31#, free of charge, before each phone number you call. If you want to permanently block your name and number from appearing on the called party's handset, look in the menu of your handset to see if there is a function to permanently block your Caller ID. You can also call 611, free of charge, from your Fido or 1 888 481-FIDO (3436).

If your number is already permanently blocked, your name will also be automatically blocked. You don't have to do anything else

I said it's either Block BOTH name and number or have it displayed.

most SP's will not answer blocked numbers , So do you want your full name

provided when you make an appointment?

Sounds like it is time to rethink alot, now.

Buy a pre-paid long distance calling card and use the long distance calling card to make the local call. The number displayed will USUALLY then be the number of the calling card company, rather than yours (check, SOME calling cards will forward your number.)

I have been doing this for years. It also effectively prevents the SP from having your actual phone# without it being a call from a blocked number. Better yet, it means the SP's number doesn't show on your phone bill, the calling card number does (this is actually the #1 reason why I do it, I don't care so much that the SP has my number as I care that her number doesn't show on my bill. If she wants to call me back I will tell her to be sure and block her number, then give her the actual number to call.)

invest in a pay-as-you-go style phone and put whatever name you feel like on it. hell, you could likely put your terb handle as your name if you felt so inclined.
