Cuba is the one jewel in the Caribbean that is virtually untainted by americans... Hopefully they will be able to keep the americans out for many years to come.

OTB
you should ask those questions in Miami.Spiker said:While I believe evey person has the right to freedom and democracy, you have to wonder if the Cubans will really be better off when this era finally ends?
Once the Americans get there hands on that tiny country, it will never be the same. While the Cuban people will then be able to buy iPods and Big Macs, will they really be any happier? When in Cuba I always marvel at the slow pace of life, lack of commercialization and general happiness of the people. The Cuban people are educated and healthy.
But alas, they are not free. I suppose freedom somes with a price in more ways than one?
I think we should start talking about droping the kennedy embargoshunter001 said:It would be good if the Cuban civilians could raise there standard of living just by the American dropping the penalties against them. The locals wouldn't have to import things from half way around the world that are available a few miles away. (I am not talking consumer goods but basics like food, building supplies, ...)
Yeah like a decade ago...papasmerf said:I think we should start talking about droping the kennedy embargos

Well I didn't want to get in a big argument so decade was cool. I just know when I went to Cuba a few years back it seemed that things would be easier for the people of Cuba if imports were easier to obtain.papasmerf said:even 20 years ago..........but the embargo has been an ode to a dead man
Perhaps they've stuffed him?basketcase said:I thought Castro had died months ago.
