blofeld, agreed Rosemount is producing some very good value for money wines in the last two years. I have even been swayed from wolf blass red label to Rosemount Shiraz for under 15.

Sole de Terre (Italy) soave. for white, it's actually good for ten dollars.

Bin 65 chardonnay, Lindenmans. (Australia) if you like the heavy bodied oak taste. 12 dollars

A good Sauvigion blanc, Two Oceans (south Africa) here its like 8 dollars, great for a light lunch compliment.

There's a wine, Artist Selection, I think some Native winery in BC makes it. I just know the label, it's ten dollars and has replaced my desire for Cave Springs for CDN wines.

Go to the Australian wine section and select any wine that says "Shiraz." You won't go wrong. I've only tried the red, though.

Australian red

red around 15$, I'd go for

WOLFBLASS YELLOW LABEL CABERNET SAUVIGNON. Their Shiraz is fine too for their price.

I used to drink chilean, but their price has gone up so rediculously high in the past years....

Call me boorishly provincial ...

... but for the money I like Peele Island wines. I kinda like their Pinot Noir Reserve and Shiraz Cabernet. One cannot be hoity-toity every night and indulge in any of the Vosne-Romanee
Grands crus or a Château Lafite. Sometimes one must slum dude.

The wino monkey who only drinks Gallo or rubbing alchohol! :p

Actually some Sawmill Creek wines are half decent as long as you aren't trying to impress anyone by showing the label. Because of some weird regulation, they're known as a blended wines and are something like 70 or 80 per cent Chilean or Californian with the rest Ontario ... and it's still classified as an Ontario wine.

My 2 cents

All Australian wines

Rosemont Pinot Noir [15-16] -excellent
Rosemont Shiraz [15-16] -excellent

Black? Opal Shiraz [13-14] -very good
Nottage Hill Shiraz [12-13]- good
Long Flat Red [10-11] -surprisingly very good.

I am not a wine snob.. don't care about cost or reputation.. only taste matters.. wine critics be dammed!!

$18 is the magic number at the LCBO.

There simply aren't good wines under that price point.

The Chileans occasionally squeeze in under the $18 range, but otherwise, skip Starbuck's for a day, and voila, you're at $18.

In the Vintage section of the store you can also find a lot of very good Argentinian reds and South African reds and whites around $15 . The LCBO publishes a monthy vintage book detailing their "releases " for the month ( they usually have 2 releases per month ) . Quite often they provide excerpts from reviews from such sources as Wine Spectator etc ......this takes some of the guesswork out of it for wines you have never had before . I bought some really tasty Chileans from the June release at $15.50 .

The best wine under $15 is the expensive wine you "liberate" from your neighbour's house!

But seriously - if you want to go just above the $15 mark - and like white, go grab a bottle of Toasted Head out of California - it is a fantastic wine, and is sometimes hard to get.

Now you do.

I like a few nice dry, Chilean reds

1) Casillero del Diablo
I cannot remember any others at this moment

and a dry Spanish red
I believe it is called Conde de Valdemar

I will drink white and rose's... but I prefer dry reds
Daddy....make that 2 straight guys.

My personal favorite is a california zinfindale called Berringers.
