I have been experiencing chronic fatigue and weakness ever since I was about 11. It comes and goes, but when I do get it, I feel extremely tired and weak. This has affected my life significantly, and would like to know if anyone else has had the same problem, and what can be done about it. Thanks.

No, but I definitely should. I just get the feeling I'm gonna have to go through a lot of waiting and testing and they won't be able to pinpoint what's wrong with me. :(

Hey SN, I've been experiencing this on and off for years. In my case it had everything to do with diet (I don't eat red meat, pork etc.) so I was definitely lacking in protein. I think the US FDA recommends 30 +/- grams of protein a day and I was getting 4 grams....with too many carbs and sugars.

I started to drink protein shakes every morning (20 grams) and have reduced the carb intake and switched to whole grains instead of foods made with enriched white flour.

I have 1000x more energy now, have a better outlook on life, and (in the opinion of friends) look a hell of a lot better. Plus I have put on a few pounds of muscle that I didn't have before (added benefit).

Get checked out but before anything else, maybe talk to a nutrionist. Before seeing her keep a log of what you're eating for a week before seeing them. They can then point out what you're missing in your diet. As you probably know, our North American diets are the pits when it comes to proper nutrition....

I hear yah bro. I've suffered CFS nearly all my life too, which may or may not be due to the fact I also suffer from somewhat of a severe sleeping disorder.

All I can recommend is:

a) A healthy diet. Which includes eating smaller meal more frequently as oppose to 3 large meals.

b) Discover if you have a vitamin defficiency and suppliment accordingly. I hear hair analysis can reveal such info.

c) Discover what food allergies you may have and stay away from such foods as much as possible.

d) Find out if you have any parasites in your body.

e) Regular exercise

f) Sufficient sleep on a regular schedule.

Hope this helps.

Two of my friends complain of something similar and seem to think it's related to a thyroid problem.

If your family doctor isn't looking for zebras (after eliminating horses), maybe you should do some research online and see if anyone in your area specializes in the type of symptoms you are experiencing.

Good luck!

...you start keeping a log of your daily activities...including your meals...exercise...work...environment...people you contact...how you are feeling...it's a lot to do but you need will need it to track down the true culprit...do you have allergies?...all the best...

I think you are right a lot of times you have symptoms and doctors can't explain them . I know they are human but it is frustrating.

GO TO THE DOCTOR!

You can't fix what you don't know is wrong with you. And the last thing you want to hear is that the doc could have done something for you if you'd only shown up 6 months earlier...

Lots of good advice from everyone, thanks. I will definitely see a doctor about this. I'll also see if improving diet, sleep, and exercise will help. I also may be allergic to something, will have to look into that too.
