big eagles fan, used to live in philly blah blah blah

obviously a brutally disappointing season, a losing season.
nick foles seems to be doing pretty well, and may continue to mature. before tonight wasnt too sure.
what is the fate of michael vick. does foles have the potential to be the franchise qb.
looks like reid wont return as per lurie's pre season prediction.

I don't think this was Reid's fault.

Sometimes you get a roster that on paper looks great but just doesn't perform.

Combine that with the fallacy that improvemnt is a linear relationship. In other words.... how can you assume a team gets better each year when some players will age or get injured or just peak.

No playoffs for Dog Killer is only a good thing.

Perhaps this is part of the reason for the Eagles poor season:

Garrett Reid, the son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, had 19 vials of steroids in his room at Lehigh University when he died from an accidental heroin overdose Aug. 5, according to authorities.

Reid, who had fought a long battle with addiction, was a volunteer on the Eagles’ strength and conditioning staff and also had 64 needles and 47 syringes in a gym bag in his dorm room, Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said.

Maybe a very SMALL part.

I have another theory...

The offensive line was decimated by injury. For starters you lose Jason Peters before the season even began. Gcostanza as an Eagles fan you are well aware that Peters was arguably their best offensive player in 2011 and he is the best LT in the league. AT one point this season the Eagles were playing with 4 depth guys on the offensive line. I think Evan Mathis is the only starter who has played every game up-front. Its impossible to evaluate ANY QB fairly under these types of circumstances. Furthermore the Eagles had some of the most horrific redzone possessions I've ever seen this year. The turnovers were a major problem too and SOME of that can be traced back to the offensive line issues. Defensively, they did not rush the passer well for much of the season and Asomugha and DRC did not cover well either on the back end. There were breakdowns in coverage of biblical proportions . More recently their defensive line has played much better. If you saw the Bengals game Graham dominated Smith and Jenkins and Cole also had very good games.

But maybe your right Gcostanza, maybe the Eagles woes have NOTHING to do with any of the stuff I mentioned. Maybe Garrett Reid's untimely passing is the reason the Eagles had a bad season.

Personally I tend to stay away from speculation and just go by what I see on the field. But thats just me.

Lots of problems with under performers and injuries. Vick, McCoy, D Jax and what about Babin(released!) and Cole on the d line. Just a nightmare of a season.

Agreed. Most of their big name players were either injured or underperformed. (Peters, Vick, Shady, Jackson, Cole, Babin, DRC, Asomugha, etc). I will say though that the D.Line seems to be playing better since the dismissals of Babin & Coach Washburn.

As for the earlier post someone made about Reid's son - sure that didnt help the Eagles cause but I think its pure speculation to say that their poor record had a lot to do with that. Truthfully I think the Eagles record would have been the same regardless of whether that happened or not.
