I googled this but the hits were all about editting text to fake as though you had a conversation.
What I want is the following and I would think other hobbiests would find it useful
1) Enter a time for the text to send
2) Enter a real contact from your list, or a fake number as the sender
3) The text of the message itself
So, when I see my fav SP is working but I need an alibi, I set it up to send me a message in 15 minutes from a client (like "Could you come by the office, we are having a problem") as though they want me to come in. I show this to the SO and say "oops, it looks like I have to go in to see xxx". This gives me an excuse to be away the next few hours.
For me, I would be using real contacts from existing clients and these messages would be part of the back and forth in the log which I could show the SO.
Is there an app that does this? It does not have to be free. It has to work on iPhone though, not jailbroken.
My piece of crap 8 year old 7-Eleven hobby phone has a similar feature called "Fake Call". You pick a contact like "Mom" and set a time in the future like 10 minutes and a call from "Mom" rings in 10 minutes. So, I have to believe someone has already invented this.
