It's not really a fad, it's just that people who don't have any business being on social networks are finally getting around to quitting. They're like blog meets personal webpage made easy and unlike blogs or personal webpages, social networks should do a better job of staying current.

Even if you quit they retain all your info.
When you sign up again your old friends are intact and your plants have grown.
