Inspired by the recent opening of the LV flagship store on Champs Elysees...
http://extratv.warnerbros.com/v2/news/1005/10/1/text.html

Like an episode of Tim Blanks' Fashion Files or Jeanne Beker's Fashion Television (not the idiot Danny Husk), did ride-alongs in shopping sprees at various fashion capitols.

If money was no object, what's your most sought after designer handbag? Yes, you can have more than 1...

Like the old saying, a woman can never have too many pairs of shoes or handbags.

Listed are brands with global appeal. If not listed, what's your personal favorite. I think I have a pretty good idea from personal observations at various fashion meccas. Sorry Miss, just checking out your handbag ;)

For inspiration, here's one site with pics of designer brands

There's a new soft leather bag from Italy called the Mutorcs which is turning alot of heads. You should add it to the poll.

It's so skillfully done it can't be knocked off.

LV is probably the best luggage maker ... and I do prefer the damier pattern over the monogram, especially for the men.

As for women, at least everyone has one these days. You see the speedy every where you look.

Ok, I know I'm not one of the girls, but I've certainly learned alot about hand bag shopping with my ex wife:
first: no knock offs: the best ones will always hold up
her faves (by bank accounts' most hated): Gucci, versace, Coach (yes, we're yanks), prada, D&G.
why couldn't she like Roots? :(
In the breakup I think she has more value in her handbags (which she kept) vs. the car (my half)

In general, I'd say Louis Vuitton.

I don't know any LF's who presently digs Versace handbags...

You forgot another category: fakes. This seems to be the most desirable.
Didn't forget as a matter of fact, the AC inflight mag while enroute to Italy suggesting fakes becoming art form taught at recognized schools.

However, Italian gov recently under pressure from name brands for fakes not to be as main stream.

Guess ricflairjuniour didn't get the $250, as I didn't get my commission.

But for those interested in some pocket change, keep an eye out for tourist approaching you near the Champs Elysees L.V. store. Many Asian tourists there with long shopping lists, pay you to buy items with your 350Euro duty-free limit. There already is an LV store in Shanghai (www.timeeurope.com Oct 18, 2004 issue) with more stores to follow, guess it's feeling of 'getting it from the source'? Not sure how it is now with the new store but old location was definitely too congested considering many were buying more than handful of bags.

Personally...

...I have never understood the appeal of the hyper expensive designer handbag. Many of them, like LV, aren't even leather. But then there is TONS of stuff about women that I don't understand....LOL

Having said that, I do understand the appeal of buying things that are WELL MADE and classic.

My mother used to only carry Coach bags (yes, I am American). Swore by them. They used to come with a totally no questions asked lifetime warranty, and I believe it, because she gave a BUNCH of them to my ex-wife, and some of those bags were between 15 and 20 years old. Still looked "classic" and after a bit of treatment at the cobblers, looked great. Durable, classic. My mother says that the quality isn't what it used to be though.

The current wife doesn't really go for the ones that are listed here - she is a Furla fan. Again, classic - I'm a guy and even *I* can tell that those things are BEAUTIFUL bags. They aren't "trendy" or "fashionable"...which translates to "ugly" most of the time for me. They look like HANDBAGS...and the leather is just amazing.

I don't carry a handbag, but I do have a small penchant for nice things as well. Several pairs of Cole Hahn shoes along with a few belts...a few Coach belts as well. My wife likes to joke that I have a bit of a Tumi fetish, but really I have only four pieces - a wallet, a toiletries bag, a computer back pack and a small carry on rollar bag that is my primary piece of luggage for business travel (small...light...durable...and dignified). Then there is my pride and joy, my Hartman attaché.

None of these things are flashy – you don’t carry them to get noticed. But they are all impeccably well made, and timeless in style. And every once in while…every rare blue moon…I find that someone will see me with either a Tumi piece or my Hartman attaché and give a little knowing nod of approval…
