I received the following wonderful text today:

*ALERT* You are listed on exposingjohns.com/xxx-xxx-xxx for soliciting a prostitute online for sex. Go to the above link to Delete your profile.

Thank goodness I have a Google number that isn't linked to anything except for the hobby. Evidently if you pay these fine people $200 they will remove your profile. Otherwise anyone can go to the site and put your number in and they link your number to your social profile, pictures and all.

I have no clue as to which ad I responded to that generated this, but my exact message was on the profile. Anyone been stung by this scam?

Someone should put Peter Mackay's profile there. For shits and giggles.

But this site isn't anything more then a new way of scamming people. If everyone just started submitting bogus pictures of slightly lesser known politicians, the website will break down soon.

Do they actually have your name, or just your number?

Exposingjohns.com is dedicated to assembling a list of suspected prostitute solicitors online. It basically works through third parties. The idea is that a person posts a false advertisement as prostitute online, and when someone takes the bait, the false prostitute then posts the information of the solicitor on the website. The posting is done through a form that is incredibly revealing, asking for the name, location, phone number, e-mail address, and photograph of the alleged solicitor.

The form can be filled out by anyone. This mean's false postings can be placed on Exposingjohns.com Johns List. If a false posting is listed, the accused person must pay an investigation fee, so the website can see whether or not the accusation is false. This is a gross violation of privacy that reveals personal information of anyone post, and can negatively affect the suspected solicitor's life.

Additionally, since the names and numbers seem to be "randomly sorted", it encourages people (guys) to "search" for their information, which is then saved and filed and used to extort you.

Thankfully just my number. My phone has my normal number but through Google Voice I have a second internet based number that rings into my same phone. Great for hobbying other than Google probably storing all my messages on some server. It gives me free calls and texts to Canada so that is also a plus. The texts I send also are not in my regular messaging app so snooping eyes are less likely to know where to look.

Time to search for Mckay's office number on that site?
How hard would it be to put in some more conservative office numbers?

i invite any hacker to hack the shit outta that website... fucking dirtbags.
I'd rather bomb that server.

In any event, how can violations of privacy be thwarted when a server is in a foreign jurisdiction with lax laws?

Can the host/owner be sued in North America?

This is disgusting and evil.

Whaddyamean "probably"? Did your tumble from the turnip truck leave bruises? The product Google sells to the folks who write them cheques is everything they learn about you and what you like and do.

a good DDoS attack can do magical things
a DDoS attack from millions of people in multiple countries at the same time can change the world

That's wgt I don't care what any SP says about texting apps. Texting apps are for my anonymity if she has a problem with that I'll see someone else.
