This Eglinton LRT project has a major cover-up in to what exactly is causing the delay on the opening .
Who knew what and when did they know and what did they do about it ?
The project started under one provincial government and has continued under others of different political stripes.
More than one political party is responsible for this fiasco so the politicians are keeping quite because there is no political gain in blaming each other and shared liability.

The initial contract was awarded to a consortium that was pulled together for the sole purpose of winning the bid. Each company was a SME in their space. But not a project at this scale.

When the defect list or lists were produced, they were prepared to walk. Metrolinx was screwed.

If ever we take on a project of this scale, look globally as to who does this day in day out. And that isn't North America. We don't build this stuff.

Can't fault the government as they don't have the mental capacity for this. Neither party has anyone who can cut it in the real world.

Ok, so here we are in 2025. So who can quarterback this project home to completion at this stage or is it just inch by inch to correct and make the SME workmanship insurable and safe for the public to ride ?

I think most torontonians dont even have any expectation of it opening.

Ever.

Its been such a long clusterfuck that people have already found ways to get to where they need to knowing the city doesnt have any real plan for the growth that happened over the past 15 yrs.

Cars, bikes, scooters, uber etc are all ways people work around the unreliable or non existant transit, problem. People will find a better way and it aint going to be the TTC.

I live roughly in the area and I saw the early completion dates approaching and laughed, because things were obviously nowhere near done. More completion dates approached and passed with the same reaction.

If you're in the area things have been visibility pretty much 'done' and being tested for much of the last year. At this point them blowing the September completion date isn't surprising, but they are obviously very, very, close.
