If you use dvd43 to get around the encoding, be sure you pick it up at http://www.dvd43.com It's a freebie but as it says on the site, some folks are trying to sell it. Grrrrr!

according to the website you dont need a DVD burner and you use regural CD-R discs , all you need is DVD ROM and CD burner

badkat, i have sent them email with some questions regarding the difference in the disc capacity and maybe worth the shot for $40. will post more info later.
