Dozens in GOP Turn Against Bush's Prized 'No Child' Act

By Jonathan Weisman and Amit R. Paley
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, March 15, 2007; Page A01

More than 50 GOP members of the House and Senate -- including the House's second-ranking Republican -- will introduce legislation today that could severely undercut President Bush's signature domestic achievement, the No Child Left Behind Act, by allowing states to opt out of its testing mandates.

For a White House fighting off attacks on its war policy and dealing with a burgeoning scandal at the Justice Department, the GOP dissidents' move is a fresh blow on a new front. Among the co-sponsors of the legislation are House Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), a key supporter of the measure in 2001, and John Cornyn (R-Tex.), Bush's most reliable defender in the Senate. Rep. Eric Cantor (Va.), the House GOP's chief deputy whip and a supporter in 2001, has also signed on.....

You mean to say that OTB's crowning of the Shrub admin is a farce?

Get bent, OTB.

How many times can you be wrong? Let us count the ways...

Papa, your schtick is getting tiresome. You add nothing but insiults to this board.
You are a sad old man. For your own sake, health and all, get a life.
Go to the pound and pick up a dog or a cat. A pet will love you and
bring some happiness and jopy into your life. I will contribute a bag of
pet food.

There is something s ignorant about the insistence that "The program is a corporate designation to keep America's poor stupid, turn them into financial slaves later" I find to be words of a mental deficient.

I agree that it was a poorly argued point, but insulting someone
does not help anybody, and it cannot be that satisfying in the long run.
Look at your last 10 posts. How many of them are insults without any
content or argument whatsoever?

if you can't laugh at yourself you can not find humor or hope in anyone. I feel sorry for you in that.

LOL!
What is very obvious from the above post and many, many, many, more postings by you is that education never was a high priority for you.
You are obviously one of those who was 'left behind' by education when you were a lil blue smerfie child......

JAJA it's not too late.
Perhaps after picking out a pet from the pound, you could sign up for some remedial course(s) in ENGLISH, for starters....be all that you can be.....;)

Oh really? Well, "No Child Left Behind" is purposely not funded. Also, this policy doesn't replicate success (i.e.: A school will have a 98% graduation rate, while one 1.5 kms away has a 50% graduation rate....in fact a majority are that way, rather than replicating the 98%). So it keeps kids stupid and since those kids are then uneducated, do you think the school teaches about money? No. So they learn it from their parents and peers (whom also learned it from their parents and peers). Then they become financial slaves when they are adults.

Thanks JaJa. But mee-sa live in da Naboo F'n the Queen!

Parents need to own their childrens education. We as a society offer it. However as i have said before. You can offer an education but you can not force feed it to anyone. A good learning environment begins at home.

As for your insults you need to reflect on them.

Woody Years back in 6th grade I had a teacher like you. She hated Nixon and the US. She would try to mold us to hate all she hated. Hell we were 11 and she was our teacher. Or parents were not thrilled with her doing this. You remind me so much of her, that I am sure you too are a card carrying communist. You try to insult me by implying I am uneducated. Yet your ignorance shows with every post.

Wrong...... I don't think so. For some reason our little Pekkkr didn't include:

To be sure, key lawmakers would like to reauthorize the law this year. Ranking Republicans on the House and Senate education committees are pushing for a renewal. And key Democrats, including Rep. George Miller (Calif.) and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (Mass.), the chairmen of the House and Senate committees responsible for drafting an updated No Child Left Behind Act, are strong supporters, although they want large increases in funding and more emphasis on teacher training and development.

For once I agree with Ted Kennedy, he must be sober on this one....

Anyone want to take bets on it being reauthorized in a D controlled Congress?

Wrong again ...... little diving bushie bottom-bot......
As under lined above, Dems are fixing Dubya's flawed education program, bigtime.
These changes/updates essentially re-write this program, hence it can now be reauthorized in a D controlled Congress.
Dubya came up with a flawed half-baked idea/program, Dems fixed it so that it may work better.

Call it what you like, woody. Reality is it is The Bish Plan. And if the clintons did their job his plan would not have been necessary. Buffalo is a great example of how education has been broke for over a decade.
