Legalized shakedown and extortion racket.

The feds seize enough money for them to deem it as "suspected proceeds of crime", but not enough for the victim to recoup because legal fees will be more than the amount seized.

You guys do realize Canada has the same system, correct?

For undeclared cash in excess of $10,000.

The difference being that Canada generally only seizes half and gives you half back, presumably to spend on sex workers. But they reserve the right to seize it all just like the U.S. does. Just don’t travel with more than 10K of undeclared cash.

”The CBSA has the authority to seize all currency and monetary instruments if the entire value is not reported. They may be returned after a penalty is paid.

Penalties
Penalties range from 5% to 50% of the seized funds. The CBSA will not return the funds if it is suspected they are the proceeds of crime or funds for financing terrorist activities.”

I am not saying the U.S. isn’t evil regarding this.

It is.

There was a famous case in Texas. A little old lady cop finally got fed up and blew the whistle.

They were seizing cash every few times from SUVs traveling from Texas to Mexico and funding the local police department with it.

There were no seizures of drugs from SUVs traveling from Mexico to Texas. The fuckers waited till the drugs were converted to cash.

And they made few arrests. They just seized the cash and let the cycle continue.

Did you guys watched the video?
I seen 3-5 videos like this 4 weeks ago.

President Obama tried to stop this and he couldn't pass the bill. Even local cops can do this. DEA does it in the airports.

About the Canada 10k border yeah that is only border not local, the video above and other stories criticize for local police theft.

Like watch it.

That is a good point. In Canada you just have to worry about it at border crossings, including the crossing at the airport. In the U.S., you have to worry about it just about everywhere if you have a large amount of cash.

This has always been an issue with U.S. escorts, particularly those who tour. Making frequent bank deposits throughout the nation doesn’t help much legally as a result of the extensive Suspicious Activity Reporting system of the banking system. The private chat message areas of message boards that encompass “bad Johns” supposedly has discussions of the best strategies to cope with searches and seizures. Not sure how Canadian sex workers deal with the cash issue. Even though search and seizure within Canada is not an issue, trey have guard against non-government theft just like U.S. escorts do.

I am confused as to why a regular person, even a John, would need to carry enough cash in the U.S. to matter, though?

One of the reasons that muggings in large U.S. cities has declined is the decline in cash being carried around.

Wow, really...I'm the opposite, I might have $20 in my wallet and use my credit card for everything.
I'm the same way when I travel. I don't want to be spending my vacation time looking for ATM's or worrying about keeping large amounts of cash on me. Cards are very convenient and you can call if it gets stolen or a weird charge appears.

Most hotels have room safes. You only walk around with what you need. Rest stays in the safe.
Another reason why I carry cash is the CC company's will charge you a premium on top of exchange rate(usually about 2.5%). Debit card charge transaction fees for using a machine that isn't your own banks.
I have no proof but I think tourists areas would have a greater chance of pick pocketing, armed robbery and CC fraud/skimming numbers.
Sure card gets stolen you call the card company. But that's a hassle while on vacation. Then you gotta wait for a new card to be delivered. What do you use in the mean time? Your going to get hungry sooner or later or need a taxi.
But that's just me.

Yup. Last time I went on vacation(2022) to the US I had $6000US in my carry on.
IMO, it's better to use a non-bank ATM and pay the fee and forex vs carrying so much cash.

TD also has 1200+ branches in the US mostly in major cities and their access card works and without additional fees.

You still have to carry the large amount of cash with you while transiting to your hotel and through the airport. To reduce the chance of being pick pocketed though, I use a PacSafe bag and wear in front of my body. I actually use it all the time because I have my wallet, phone, charger, etc. I can't carry all that in my pockets especially during the summer. Phones are getting bigger and they don't quite fit in the pockets anymore.

The bag is cut resistant and I can padlock the zippers for a bit of extra security. As with everything security related, I only need to make it inconvenient for a thief so that they target someone else.

I just use a back pack. Once you get to the airport I have never had an issue. I also don't think airports are a good place for criminals since you need a boarding pass to get into the terminals were most people are. Never heard of anyone being robbed at knife/gun point at an airport.
From the airport to the hotel I use a arranged shuttle or taxi. Never an issue and doubt it ever will be. I don't go to 3rd world countries or the South side of Chicago,
LOL.
When you think about it you really don't run into to that many people once you get to the airport then to your hotel. Honestly, travelers just want to get on a plane and go. They don't care about what you are travelling with. What are the chances of an officer stopping you at the gate. I've never seen it happen.
My last trip I was coming home and going through security I was emptying out my pockets in the tray. I put my wallet, hat and tablet in the tray. The officer put my hat over my wallet to conceal it. I thanked him and he nodded back. My wallet only had about $100 in it and rest of cash was in my backpack. Now, nothing of value goes in my suitcase.
I have no fear of being robbed at an airport in a developed country.

Of course you're very safe in an airport in a developed country especially North America.

I only mentioned the anti-theft bag because it might be useful in the tourist areas where there's likely more pickpockets and they don't necessarily need to pull a knife on you.

They will target Canadian escorts at the airport, easily just looking for well-dressed or stylish and attractive ladies at the airport, and search them for large amounts of cash. DEA is within good reason too, prostitution is illegal in the USA even though it's not the DEA's job to enforce it. To the DEA escorts, johns, pimps, and drugs are under the same umbrella.
