Insomnia was not a Christopher Nolan project (great film) he was director for hire to Al Pacino. If his work didn't meet with Alfredo's approval his career would have been ruined. He certainly wouldn't have gotten the Batman franchise without Alfredo's support.

Christopher Nolan has gotten repetitive lately, he's still built an impressive body of work since Memento. That film was why Alfredo wanted him to direct Insomnia.
