Birds are smarter. When birds are presented with a puzzle to get to the food they can solve it. Dogs do not understand there is a puzzle to be solved. Intelligence is brain size divided by body mass so the less body mass more of the brain can be used for intelligence.

You saw the doc I saw ??

Fucking crow solved a 7 step puzzle to get to the food faster than I would have solved it. I know I am just a dumb truck driver but still it was totally amazing. Crow then dropped a stone into the water to get the water to rise so he could get the food that floated on top.

Crows are especially smart but other species of birds are smart as well. Parrots can count.

I had 2 crows hanging around my property, then a 3rd showed up, and then another joined in.
So I called the police and had them charged with attempted murder.

Hey, you've been a great audience. I'm here all week folks. Try the veal!

So can rats/mice. Brains aren't homologous organs; their structure can differ regardless of size. Birds are specialized differently than dogs, so the ability to solve puzzles doesn't necessarily equate to greater intelligence.

Your second point is correct though, typically the less brain matter utilized to control motor functions and sensory input, the greater that can be devoted to higher functions. Therefore, brain mass to body mass matters.

Funny how stories get exaggerated.

Reality: brain scans show dogs understand both tone and words, with separate mental processing

Not quite the same thing as understand everything we say. They only recognize a few words and can't handle grammar. What's news is that they understand both tone of voice and the word spoken.

And here I thought the only thing you knew about dogs was their nutritional values.

Very much so. From what I remember hearing/reading, they have over 200 or 300 specific "caws" (calls) and can recognize faces and sense danger. Very cool shit.
Too bad Hollywood portrayed them so simplistically with "death".

Crows may be smart but dogs are very emotionally perceptive. They read your voicetone and know how you feel and can read your every movement. They sense illness and seek to comfort. They know when you are high and immediately start playing with your mind.

I find dogs fascinating.

I have two of my own.

I think it is neat that they are 99% genetically similar to wolves and that it was our breeding/selection of them that has created so many different types of dogs. We basically accelerated evolution by a staggering factor.

Dogs definitely understand tone..... plenty of videos on youtube of dogs looking guilty when caught by their masters doing something bad.

If you have the time and energy and money to care for a dog I highly recommend it. Definitely a rewarding experience.

Does this mean midgets are smarter than normal size people?
Weeoooo weeeeoooooo wooooooo SJ POLICE!!! PULL THE THREAD OVER AND STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD....put your hands on your head sicko...you are being socially detained.

..Is anybody hurt? Is everyone ok? Should we do a head count?

**Today, the word “midget” is considered a derogatory slur. The dwarfism community has voiced that they prefer to be referred to as dwarfs, little people, people of short stature or having dwarfism, or simply, and most preferably, by their name.**

I used to play midget hockey when I was a little person. I guess it should be renamed "dwarf" hockey.

BTW: Now I know why they call it dwarf tossing and not midget tossing.

Maybe it will be changed to Dwarven League when enough people try their best to be offended. Then they will claim "offense", "body checking" and "scoring" to be sexually offensive and have them changed as well.
