Dog with bad breath.

I know someone with a 13 year old dog that has bad breath. You can smell it from 4 or 5 feet away. What causes this, and what can you do about it?

Same thing as humans with bad breath: they have gum disease. They need to see a dog dentist to scrape off all the tartar and plaque.
