Dog Park Poisonings Take Bizarre New Twist

The tragic story of the poisoning of several dogs in High Park has taken a bizarre turn. And authorities don't quite know what to make of it.
Two dogs have died and four others were sickened after it appears they drank a chemical contained an anti-freeze ingredient at a leash free zone in the green space. Cops still aren't sure whether the material was deliberately left there, but can't quite account for how it got into the water.
But that's just the beginning of the mystery. CityNews has learned police are also looking into an extremely strange discovery involving raccoons at the park. Authorities have discovered an "unusual" number of carcasses of the wild animals in the area. It's not clear yet what killed them, but some appear to have been deliberately posed. In one case, a deceased raccoon was found holding flowers in it paws, a definite sign of some kind of human intervention.
There was also something mysterious police found in the bushes, and they're planning to explain what that was during a Tuesday afternoon press conference.
So far, there are few clues about who might be responsible for either of the strange incidents and there's no immediate proof yet of whether they're related.
But the area remains cordoned off with police tape as cops warn pet owners in the area to be very careful about they allow their best friends to be exposed to.
Farah Nasser will have much more on this bizarre case on CityNews at Five and Six.
It's the latest in a series of apparently deliberate animal poisonings across the city. One dog died and up to five others fell ill after eating insecticide-laced hot dogs in Withrow Park in 2004. This past February three dogs died after being exposed to rat poison in Delma Park in Etobicoke.
